Sure, a Ford GT40 topped the charts at $7 million at this year’s Mecum Kissimmee auction. But some of us enjoy a bargain. There were plenty of awesome cars for less than $10K. Don’t believe us? Here are 10 that caught our eye.

I’d rock a late C3 Corvette. At one time, JG were talking about doing one. We still should.
Of course, though, the 2000 Civic Si holds the highest spot in my heart. :)
Still miss ours.
I think it would make an interesting website/blog that would post the First 10 sales at the major auctions ,
I always figured there would be good deals in the first hour or so before many bidders got seated.
Those custom cut "Elite Viper" style HRBB (Boyd) billet wheels on the Toyota minitruck have to have cost well over half the sale price of the truck.
In reply to californiamilleghia :
Yeah, and FWIW, Mecum starts the day with Road Art: signs, printed, artwork, etc.

Maybe do a ridiculous restomod CAM type car?
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I mean, I get it, but I'm often surprised at how much some of that Road Art sells for.

That '79 seems like kind of a steal. I mean, how bad can they be, right? I guess the chassis are a little floppy, but that seems like something that could be fixed. Throw in some bracing, ditch the leafs, cut the sleeves off your denim jacket, party.
Also, wow those Z31 Nissan Zs have aged well. Especially the 2-seaters.
The high-dollar cars get the attention but it's good to be reminded you can get into the vintage car hobby for relatively cheap. A few there that would tempt me if I weren't already buried in cars.
On a related note, it was interesting to see the R53 MINI profiled as a rising collectible car in a recent Hagerty magazine. I suppose that means I'm not the only one who has one under an collector car policy.

I've driven that era both on and off track. They are unbelievably crude; which is why I like them.
In reply to Tom1200 :
Yeah, JG basically nailed the formula. Gotta keep the stock alloys and fit some RWL tires.
Capris have been growing on me. The car, not the pants. They're a nice alternative to the Mustang.

I'll take the Kouki Z31 ('87 -'89). But even when I got my '88 300ZX (hence the screen name) at 16 in high school in '98 there already wasn't much aftermarket for them. Although I was able to do a few mods to it so many years ago.
Eibach springs, KONI strut/shocks, Suspension Technique sway bars, a custom built catback with a Thermal Research & Development, the larger 240SX throttle body, and we built a sealed airbox and put the turbo scoop sealed to the hood to feed it air. It was NA and not the turbo. The Kouki cars also got a 5hp boost over the '84 - '86 cars.
Did you guys see the NB Miata Special Edition with 51k miles that sold for $5500? Even my wife is kicking me for not buying it. There was also a nice Z3 auto trans that went for $2500.
In reply to SKJSS (formerly Klayfish) :
Here’s the listing for that one: 2001 Maxda MX-5 Miata Special Edition.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't spend a bunch of my early yoof coveting C3 'Vettes. They're pretty wild.
But that E21 is THE standout on that list.

I don't see any real bargains there. I think they sold for what they are likely worth. The McClaren Capri will probably increase in value, as will the Camaro. The rest are just kind of moderately interesting cars with no rabid following.
Having driven an E21, I wouldn't have paid half that much for it. I'd rather spend that or more for an E30.
Hell 5500 for the Z28 seems like a steal...just for the rebuilt T56 alone.

Yes, this is a great deal. That one looks pretty clean. And as cool as having a LS under the hood is, I think the 1993-97 Camaros aged much better in the looks department than the "catfish" 1998-2002 models.
And GRM guys: Do a CAM-T restomod car. Please. You know you want to!
That particular Corvette was a L82/4 speed. Best combo that year. Feels well-bought.

Great minds and all that.
