I do not see the hairshirtedness about driving a classic. But then, I also do not use Air conditioning, tend to leave the sunroof open in winter, and put stiff shocks and springs under my cars. Some of the Miatas on GRM are probably more torturous to drive than that 356
I daily drove but a VW superbeetle, and several Fiat Spiders for a good 15 years and if I could do so again without worrying about rust, I would
Almost every morning on the DC Beltway I pass a guy in a 356 that looks like it has 2 milllion miles on it. Appears to be fully original, never restored paint, original wheels, bumpers, etc. (no visible rust, but it's always dirty) Looks like he has maintained it mechanically but otherwise just drives it like an old Civic or something, lol.
Man that thing looks tiny in rush-hour traffic.
Very cool!
Hearing this gentleman is much like listening to my friend Ralph Button talk about his Factory Five roadster. He built it just before the turn of the century and started driving. He drives it to work, he drives it to school, he drives it between Maine and North Carolina as well as NC and Texas on a regular basis, he drove from Maine to California to autocross with friends then back home...
He's been through more sets of tires than he can remember, a couple of driver's seats and windshields and is on the second engine. As of yesterday he and the car have traveled a little over 501,000 miles together.

That's great! I can easily see me doing that in those circumstances.
