I have the G-Force Sports on my MR2. Love 'em. My wife did autocross school on them and one of the instructors commented about the grip being pretty awesome.
Im pretty sure they held a record for lateral Gs for a street tire or a tire in their rating class or something. Dunno if its still standing, and dont feel like googling it right now

I'm probably in the minority here, but I went for a set of Falken Ziex 512s(215/60/15) on my 733. They are wearing well(like iron!), ride nice, not much road noise, and the handling and grip is more than adequate for my spirited driving in a big sedan. They were only like $60 shipped from Discount Tire. I'm very pleased with the performance of these. Definitely much better than the reviews I read.
I bought a set for my E30 M3.
On a car with a fine chassis, I find them numb for steering feel, perhaps because they have a void in the tread center as opposed to a rib.
My requirements are different than the OP.
I think they would be excellent for the OPs paradigm.

I'll agree with what others have said about the Potenza RE960. We've been happy with them in 195/60/15 on the girlfriendmobile, a '93 900S. I've also had good experience with the Falken Ziex ZE912.

Nobody so far has mentioned the Continental DW and DWS, though I don't know if they come in 15" sizes.
I bought DWSs for my wife's TSX and so far they are great - feel really good, ride well, and seem very grippy in both dry and wet. I think they were under $120 in 17".

Toyo Proxes 4. Awesome wet grip, good wear, difficult to make them squeal, pretty quiet until they're really worn down, and dirt cheap.
I use these on my E39 BMW daily driver. Very happy with them. In fact I got them from my race tire guy. He is a small business and I like to keep the littly guys going when I can. Plus I got a very nice price on them too. I probably have 40k on them with plenty to go.
I've got a set of Firestone Firehawks on my Saturn that I'm pretty happy with....
I have the Kumho ASXs on my Miata and love them, so I put a set on my CooperS, too. However, on the MINI they've started making a fair bit of noise. You can see some feathering of the inside edges of the rear tires. I've rotated them to see if it will change anything, but it will take a while before I can tell. Really good tires otherwise.
I'm running Kumho ASXs on my Impreza currently. Not a terribly crisp tire, and they get a bit greasy and squalk when hot, but the rain performance is amazing! I'm sold on buying a few more sets of these. Very good value for money.

I've got 14" Ziex 912's on my Miata right now. They came on some wheels I bought to replace the crappy ones that came with the car and I figured I'd toss them in favor of some real high-performance tires right away. It turns out they're pretty damn good. Comfortable and surprisingly grippy for what they are. I'd second that they're a touch numb until they dig in a bit, but otherwise they're great.
Ecsta Platinum LX in 195/55/15. I have them in a larger sizem, they have great grip, great ride and are quiet. I currently have almost 40k miles on my 205/55/16's and am still above 4/32's on the "low" ones and 5/32 on the high ones. I expect one more winter and they'll be done.....
My 912's have done me great, i am due for replacement soon and i would defiantly get them again, But i just moved to maine so i am looking for Winters at the moment.
EDIT: They are on my speed 3 and with about 5 auto-x's on them i really can't complain how they did.
I have the Kumho ASX's on my WRX. For the first 10,000 miles, they were pretty damn good. They were unstoppable in any weather and performed as well as the summer tires that came stock on my car, if you would believe that.
But soon after 10,000 miles, they started to get noisy. Real noisy, like a lifted Jeep on Super Swampers noisy. Fast forward to 25,000 miles, and I was getting some pretty serious vibration on the highway. I took the car into the tire place I go to and get the wheels road-force balanced. They come out and tell me that the balance is pretty close to perfect already, but I have them do it anyway. They still vibrate on the highway. I think the belts slipped or something, I don't know.
As it sits, I have about 32,000 miles on them, and I'm hoping they make it through the winter. The noise they make is unbearable to the point where I actually threw a subwoofer in my car to help drown out the noise!!! I think I'm going to go with Yokohama Avid V4's (or today's equivalent) next time around. I had them on my old WRX, and they lasted forever and were noiseless. They performed awesome too for a daily driver tire. A lot of people are reccomending the Continental DWS's but I've never been a fan of their tires.
Oh, a side note: The fiance has some General Tire all season performance tires on her Hyundai Elantra, and so far, they have been nothing short of amazing compared to the stock Kumhos the car came with. Those things were bald by 25,000 miles!
