1984 Supra 66k miles Value ?

Hey did a house tint today and original owner 1984 Supra 5 speed with aluminum rear window louver and rear spoiler . Not a nick in the paint basically super clean paint not resprayed . No rust visable seats excellent , carpet interior T and A . SUnroof car . Engine bay just dust behind most of the side wall and firewall , Engine looks clean some aging on it but you can tell not amoralled to death . Owner had a pinstripe put on it outside decals look fresh and clean . Car is very original and well cared for . Owner said $3900 and he paid 18 k new . Just wondering / dreaming about car for wifes XMAS present ? < Take me that long to raise cash or B DAY next June . ANY Thoughts ?? Thinking of selling crap load of british junk err mean classics to buy it . Anybody got a Supra ?

I would say that's a good deal if it's as nice as you say it is. The older Japanese cars are becoming more desirable and are appreciating in price. 66K is extremely low miles for that year. Others may disagree, I say if that's the car you want go for it.

Up here every single one has rusted to nothing. I have not seen one on the road in 5 years. If its clean, I would jump on it, those cars look great.

We bought a 1983 Supra (P-Type) with 166K this year for $200. Photos are posted in Readers Rides. It was not a cream puff but is in great condition.

To be honest the price he quoted is probably a little high for the car (is it a P or L?) - L has a digital dash and P has wheel flares unless it is really, really cherry. There are some excellent CelicaSupra online resources (forums and vendors) specifically for these MKII cars.

BFG is about the only one making 235-60/14 tires and 15/16/17 inch wheels are limited. Suspension upgrades are available but not always a direct fit without mod since this is an old car.

It has the needle dash and has fender flares . This is an extremly clean car . I didnt look under the floors but I would imagine its super nice . Anybody need three TR -6 parts cars ? Owner made s ure to point out not one ding in the body work and under rear hatch not a spot of rot .

3900 sounds like a good price to me without actually seeing the car. Some 20ish K examples have brought in the 5 digit range recently, the value of these cars is going up for low mileage clean unmolested examples with the right options like this has. Better looking and more powerful 84+ car, 5 speed, P type.

The louvers are hurting the value some as they are not original and probably were drilled into the metal of the hatch to install. You could have the holes welded up and the hatch repainted to bring it back. There are nice reproduction decals for sale on the celicasupra.com forums, be careful with the ebay ones the quality is all over the place.

They are great cars - I am more impressed every time I drive it - when I can get my 16 year old out of it that is...

keep in mind, every mile you put on it makes it a little closer to just being another old toyota. Now if you look at it like; for $4000 what else can you get that much use out of, look that cool, be that reliable, etc... it's not a crazy choice I guess.

I think they look sweet but personally, of the three or four i've driven, I was completely underwhelmed by the experience.

Going to lQQk again at the car tommorrow , and take it for a test drive . I will get some photos and post them . I have to say it's making me want to chuck some project cars I have and move on to a car i know i can get 60 k or so cool driving miles . I am not looking to go crazy racing this car , i got a car to auto x . Just thinking one owner cruiser with AC that has some looks and not the rust of an older classic . I am looking at it like hey heres a nice car for $3900 that i will enjoy for next 20 years . Coupe style AC and can show up at any car show .

I did not realize it till I searched up a post for detailing then i added karl and this popped up . The guy is super obsessive and I am just letting him do what he does best . I hear nothing but the best of praise for his work . Working on Sunday ? he had a two week wait !

A little harsh, but maybe there is some truth there. Either way, they are cool looking cars as far as the 80s styling goes. If you fix it up right, I'm sure it could be a sweet ride.

That's really clean. I wouldn't be surprised if you could easily double your money if you wanted to sell it now. Japanese 'classics' have been growing in popularity.

Nice car. I confirms my comment ($9500 book value). FL is closer than OR to PA, so 2X purchase for Karl's car (no idea if he's looking to sell - probably not) would be cheaper than $7000 for the OR car.

Rust free examples of 80's Japanese cars are rarer than hen's teeth here in the Northeast, so transportation costs need to be factored in.
