So Keith's CRX score has me hunting my local classifieds and I come across an odd one that I thought some of you might be interested in; a 1986 Audi 5000 Wagon with manual transmission that sounds like its in pretty good shape for $4K of those Canadian type funny coloured dollars

I love wagons, but the rake on that rear hatch really makes it look more like a fastback/hatchback than a useful wagon
I'm not buying it myself since I have enough cars right now (5) but just wondered if the collective things these are cool or just a 28 year old Audi waiting to strand the next victim owner

All Audis with all wheel drive before 1990ish were manual trans. Audi didn't have an AWD automatic until the first V8. IIRC most wagons were turbo, also.
If this is a unicorn, then people buy up a lot of unicorns so they can part them out and put the drivetrains in small-chassis cars.

Not uncommon back in the day. I test drove a 5000 CS eons ago and liked it. The turbo quattro wagon would be an awesome skimobile.
They're not quite unicorns, but they're awesome. I have a 91, and wish mine had the manual locking diffs that this one has, or should have. Price is a bit high, but not outrageously so. It's a good candidate for a cheap EFI conversion.
A lady here at work once had two of them, both black. She called them her batmobiles.
It's a unicorn to me. I've seen tons of sedans, but I can't remember ever seeing an 80s Audi wagon like that. Awesome.
