there is a 1996 A4 2wd with reportedly minor issues for sale that i am considering. it is the 2.8 liter engine with a 5 speed. any experience or red flags i should look for in these cars? the car would be a dd so i need something relatively dependable. is this a practical car to be a dd without breaking the bank?

thanks in advance!

In my experience, no. Used Audi's are usually expensive to start with (maintenance) but those with known problems to start with are really the ones torun away from.

even if the known problem is a steering rack leak?

It's been about 5 years since we sold ours. Only recently have I gotten to the point where the thought of the car doesn't make me livid.

IIRC all the ball joints were undersized for this car and wear seemingly in a matter of minutes.

Yours is not the only instance of this. Trust me.

As the others have said - don't bother. Parts and maintenance is more than its worth for a car of this nature. Pita to work on too.

Pass. On top of all that, the 2.8 sucks.
