My sister in law lives in LA, and drives a '98 Rav4. I have not personally looked at it, but by her accounts, it runs and drives just fine, but if she turns it off, it will not restart for another 20-30 minutes. It cranks fine (not slow) but just won't start. I'm pretty sure that she said sometimes it will even sputter a bit when she's trying to start it, but won't start until it cools off a little. It has NEVER died on her while driving, and has also never failed to start after sitting for an extended period of time. Any ideas?
Oh, and is it a 2 door hard top manual 4 wheel drive?
It is a 2 door manual, but I don't remember if it's 4x4 or not.
Well, FIND OUT. Also: Hard top or soft top? If it is AWD and hard top, I'll buy it and she can drop it off near San Berdoo, once it cools off and is running, thus solving her problem (and giving me several.) 4x4 will have 3 buttons over the radio instead of 2, a 3rd digit of the VIN of 'Y' and of course a rear differential, but sometimes asking people if it has a rear differential will get you a "dumb look" today.
second the fuel pump. also crank position sensor. try throwing cold water on CPS when car is hot and see if that helps.
OK, that's kind of along the same lines as I was thinking, but I was kind of hoping it was some weird common problem, and someone had come across the exact same situation before.
