Got back from my first autocross ever. I think this group might be uniquely well run, 56 drivers, 6 runs each in about 2.5 hours, plus a few fun runs.
I made some friends and drove my less than three months old MINI Cooper S, bone stock, on the Continental all-seaon run flats. Here were my results:
First Autocross Results
42.910 - 1st Run Ever, With Ride Along
39.171 - With Ride Along
39.718
38.433
38.943 - With Ride Along
37.878
38.463 - Ride Along in my car
37.820 - Fun Run 1
37.456 - Fun Run 2 - tagged 1st cone
For my first run, I didn't really understand how things were working so I had almost no time to get ready, which probably was a good thing... No time to get nervous.
Ended up 2nd in class (of three, passed second on my last run), but was over a second off of first. 35th of 56 on raw time, 27th on PAX.
Had a great time, anybody in SWPA should definitely check out the North Hills Sports Car Club. It was a fairly simple high horsepower course with two long straights and one really fun fast off camber sweeper. I focussed on not getting lost and was successful. I wouldn't have improved much without the ride alongside, mostly because it happened so quickly I couldn't remember where I'd screwed up.
That's about a second per run improvement. Not too shabby. Glad you had fun.

I remember my first auto-X run. I was planning it for week so I was terrified. But after about 15 seconds, I was hooked.
Lemme give you a tip for next time. If you club looks for workers (are there any that don't?) volunteer to get there early to set up. You might end up sweeping of "boxing in" cones but you'll have more time to walk the course than anyone else.

Big +1 on this. I get there early and help set up. Help with tech and usually help pack up at the end of the day. It keeps me from chasing cones in the heat of the day. You also meet some of the best people in the world.
I got there early today but they were already set-up. I stayed and helped pick up cones though. I was really surprised how few people stayed to help. I mean, how much does that cost you, 15-20 minutes?
We do a big autocross at the Micheline Proving Grounds. 225+ cars. It takes every cone we own plus a bunch from CCR. The last time there were 6 of us setting up in the dark till 11:00 pm, five hours to set up the course and grid. After the event there were 10 of us cleaning up the site. Trust me, help with setup and pull down. It will be much appreciated.
Oh, I did help... I was disappointed in how few others did, what I was saying was basically "many hands make light work."
