Let me just start by saying I'm running 3 MS setups on 3 different cars and usually I don't have any issues to speak of, yesterday was a perfect storm.

Problem 1: converting my MS3 audi to sequential and coil on plug I decided to upgrade to a 4 bar map daddy sensor from DIY. When I removed the old one I lost a few of the metal landings that you soldier the pins to (i hate 3.57 surface soldier boards) and now my map will only read 3.6 kPa no matter what vacuum signal it gets. I configured everything according to the diyautotune instructions. All I want to try is to wire the map with jumpers and I'm getting zero help from the msextra forums. Only 3 pins are used according to the schematics If I'm reading this right I can jump pin 1 to the left side of R2, ground pin 2 and give pin 3 +5v. Does anyone see an issue with this? Never tried it but I don't know what else to do besides get a new board $$

Problem 2: my most recent is a mk1 scirocco running ms1 fuel and spark. This setup runs great until you sit at a stop light or in a drive thru on a hot day. Coolant and oil Temps are well within operating range but it seems if my TPS gets heat soaked (on a vw 16v they sit right over the exhaust manifold) the engine will miss fire everytime I go near the throttle and eventually it dies. Then it won't start till it sits and cools off for maybe 15 minutes. Of course the 3 times it's happened I didn't have a laptop with me but everything points to the TPS. It will continue to run if I barely touch the throttle. I am running a Nissan 240sx TPS (because it has a 3 wire potentiometer) and I'm beginning to think it's not rated for that amount of heat. Added an actual TPS heat shield from a Passat but the problem is still there. I'm going to get a new TPS in hopes that it's just a bad off the shelf part. Just wondered if anyone else has had similar issues. It's worth noting that I run the exact same TPS on my 280z MS1 setup and it has never Givin me any issue being further away from the exhaust.

Both these cars are driving from Colorado to Las Vegas in 2 weeks and I really would like to sort this out soon.

Help me GRM kenobi. . . . Your my only hope. . .

Well I jumpered the map circuit without any advice or input and it's reading atmospheric on the stimulator now so that's one down . . . On to my TPS issue now

Heat soak occurs after engine shutdown. The heat from the oil and water will rise making components at the top of the engine the hottest. If you problem goes away in 15 min with the hood closed it isn't heat soak.

That means that the problem is probably occurring from the operation of the TPS. It probably draws the most current at idle. It sounds like it isn't rated for the current draw the MS puts through it. Possibly a small cooling fan would help.

Can you data log that weirdness on the VW and post the log along with its tune file?

I have seen TPS issues where the input to the MS will float (either wiring issue, etc) and if it's left to float the ADC can drift up and cause all sorts of odd things to happen. If it starts to happen again, try and jump signal to ground at the connector and see if it still happens or fixes it. That will tell you if its in the sensor or in the wiring/ecu.

You'll need to log in to post.
