Is the engine behind the driver?

Sometimes. Depends where the driver is in relation to the car.

Not RWD, not AWD, engine behind the driver - what car are you going for here?

Damn. Nicely done, what was that 15 minutes from the first post?
In theory this thing will be in a vending machine for me a few days from now. What's the plan? A trouble-free ownership experience with plenty of track days and zero check engine lights. And 500 horsepower.
What could go wrong?

(Was gonna guess you figured out how to game the system and got a Maverick until you said it was European)
Yes (hey, gotta stick to my rules right?)
Curses, foiled again!!!
So, is this a stop gap until the Maverick shows up? (Which, at this point means you'll probably be able to put 50k miles on it until then)

I've owned one of those!

Yeah, I had a few SEMA meetings with people who were singing the praises of the Mk VII GTI, and talking about how reliable they are, how 400 hp was only $900 away, how great they handled, etc. etc. So either those people are crazy, or these cars are a tremendous performance value that is also a great daily driver. Let's find out.

Milk or wine, I wonder how this post will age?
I enjoyed the 60k miles I put on a 2008 GTI DSG. I look forward to updates.

I could have saved $4000 by buying one with 100,000 miles. But I'm not that brave.

Damnit that was going to be my post!

Same. I was guessing "GTI..." after he said Yes to "European" and "Less than 20 years old."

hahahahahahahaha
This has to go into the meme thread.
My wife's Mk7 DSG has been mechanically reliable for the nearly 100K miles she's had it. It's the stuff that shouldn't break that has. The AC, the shifter assembly, the front bumper paint (early Red Mk7s are supposedly notorious for this), and a few recalls. It sure does drive nicely, though.

So it's all true and I have nothing to worry about?
Most likely. In my own VW experience, the CEL can be annoying (and makes for amusing memes), but usually whatever is causing it doesn't really affect the operation of the car.
