So my nephew has a hand me down car in the topic. He sends me a video worried about the timing belt. Only problem is he's pointing at the serpentine belt. Yeah not a car guy but I love him. My dad doesn't know when the timing belt was changed last. We all know these autos suck. I told him to get the timing belt done and if the trans fluid smelled/looked good then leave it alone. Anything else you'd tell your college aged nephew to do?
Get the water pump done too. Same with lower radiator hose.
Alignment and brakes looked at.
Lol I have a similar vintage Accord. I think the timing belt was done lol. I'm just gonna drive it in the ground

Yeah I told him that if the trans went out to leave it on the side of the road and take a bus home.

Ok water pump and hose. I'll be able to look at it in person in a few weeks so I'll check the alignment and brakes.
We dumped our 01 auto 4 cyl, crank windows and all, at 268K miles, at the Salvation Army donation program. Everything original, and was maintenance only.
I thought only the V6 accords/oddy/TL trannies of that generation were made of glass.
Didn't know 4 cyl had the issues too.
I know that Honda recommends a timing belt and water pump every 100k. On my old ‘02 accord I had it done twice: once at 100k and again at 200k. I wanted to get it to 300k, but a patch of black ice had other plans. The autos are pretty garbage, but they suit their purpose and a watchful eye can prevent a lot of the grenading that seems to be everywhere on the internet. FWIW, I’ve owned about a half dozen Hondas from the glass trans era and never had a problem. Anecdotally, my parents, relatives, and a few friends also have never had an issue with the auto box. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a good version of an automatic and compared to Honda’s manual boxes are severely lacking in precision and feel.
my dad has one with 270k on it. Just traded it in on a CRV. Sure the transmission broke, but a cheap replacement was avaialbe and he kept driving it.
