Well, I have a 2003 Tahoe 5.3 4x4 ect ect with 251k on the original drivetrain

Anyway! when accelerating (20mph and up) There is a whirring type noise coming from the rear on the truck, gets loud when cruising 60+ but goes away if you let off the gas.

Had it on the lift at work and had the shop forman stick his head under there with a stethoscope and.... rear end completely quiet?!?!?

I just did u joints and yes the noise was there before and it did not change, also changed the rear diff fluid 75-90 syn and transfer case fluid to no avail. any ideas?!?!?!?1

Bad bearings causing funkiness with backlash and pinion depth.

Replace everything but the carrier if you want a lasting repair. Otherwise, find a low mileage one and swap it out.

Try rotating the tires first.

Diff bearings causing the gears to whine.
