The other thing is it starts really easy. I mean it fires on what seems like less than a full revolution of the motor. My wife's H2 has the same motor and it acts the exact same way. Is this a Vortec / LS thing?
It's a GM V8 thing. Their EFI V8s seem to just start really fast compared to their smaller motors and every other company's engines. I've seen LS1 and LT1 Camaros start like that on a regular basis as well.

yep i bet the front manifold bolt popped the head off. the bolts are tiny compared to the old 3/8" sbc ones. every engine i get has the front bolt head popped off the passenger side or the rear one popped off the driver's side. there is always plenty left to get vise grips on or weld a nut to.
they all start nice and fast unless something is wrong. on my 07 express you bump the key and it's running.
when i was looking for avalanche tires, the hive recommended hankook dynapro ATM. i am loving them, when the avalanche got traded in i kept them and put on some 15 year old firestones, and now the hankooks are on the 07 3500 express. i was impressed with them in the snow and wet, and they are quiet.
Found another thing that will move up on the list. The drivers door does not open with a key. Passengers side does.

Maybe the resistor? Does it work on any speed?
The resistor pack in these trucks is notorious for failing. I replace mine annually. The core issue is that the ground wire isn't really thick enough and gets hot, and the "right" fix is an updated wire harness. Or you can keep throwing resistor packs at it.
Can you run a new lower gage wire to replace the ground wire?
Does anyone know where to get replacement marker lights that are on the bed. There is one on either side of the rear wheel well and one is missing. I have a gmc dealer down the road but was hoping to avoid the dealer pricing. I have looked on several on line gm only places and the truch does not appear to be listed. I think they are unique to the Quadra steer as the rear fenders ate flared a bit more than non Quadra steer trucks.
I'd atleast check the dealer. The couple of times I needed parts for my 08 Silverado the dealer's GM prices were very reasonable.
E-brake cables were $25/cable, rear hub seal was $30 (same as Napa and other stores except it had the correct fit and didn't leak), and a front trim piece was $40 more than the aftermarket piece except it included the ten clips that were $4 a piece and were GM only.
Good point. I will pay them a visit. I was hoping to order on line and have them waiting at my door when I got home from vacation.

It's a GM thing in general. Fast starting is one of their engineering goals and they'll use crankwheels that have different length teeth/gaps so the PCM will know which cylinder is on the compression stroke without the engine having to go all the way around to a missing tooth or something.
Man this is a smokin' deal. Congratulations on a truck that was very well bought.

Thanks. Ya i am excited. Coming home from vacation tomorrow and I hope to get some more cleaning done and start spreadsheet on it that I do with every car I get.
Figured out the fan motor. Mouse got in under the fuse block. The good thing is it ate two wires only. Going to fix that up tomorrow and on to the next problem.
The drivers door will not open with the key.

10:1 says the front exhaust manifold bolt is broken. Have done a bunch on Chevys. (It's not just Mod motors that break manifold bolts/studs)
You are correct. I went snooping around today and found the front stud/bolt is missing an the passenger side.
That does not look like a fun thing to fix.

There's a place in East Bridgewater called RC truck sales. They are a combo truck junk yard/ new aftermarket parts place. Cheap stuff there. I bought heavy duty aftermarket bumpers for my van at that place cheaper than good used ones.
Is there a web site for this place? I am making a shopping list. I could not find a site for them.
I cleaned out the bed and pressure washed it today. It had this form fit rubber mat in the bed that seems to have really done a great job of protecting the bed as there was not even a scratch on the bottom of the bed.
There was epdm bonding adhesive on the rubber mat that I think is permanent but everything else was removed by the pressure washer.
One of the floor mats looked like some one spilled a quart of oil in it. I blasted it and was surprised to see that almost all the stuff came out.
For the moment I am going to keep the floor mats as the carpet underneath is in really good shape. I will replace them once I sort other things and make sure the mechanical's are in good shape.
All I can find is $35 per side. Just not sure what the part number is. I think the flare itself is #1gkgc26u45r211222

You talking marker lights? If so many thanks!!!!
In reply to dean1484:
I searched and found a thread where a non-Quadra owner wanted the flares for his Silverado. He found the part number and ordered them and was asked about shaving the lights or buying them.
He said they were $35 per side.
He was able to get that info with the part number for the flares.
You're welcome by the way! I'll be happy if it's helps you out!
I Google's that number and found the thread. That was a great help. Thanks. I am going to pay the Gmc dealer a visit later this week with the vin number and see what I can order.
I could shave them as well but getting replacements is such a better option
Can't find a web site, just a phone number. They are on Thatcher street. Thatcher street starts in Brockton and goes into Bridgewater. The whole street is nothing but junk yards, recycle places and other businesses that only Brockton would embrace. RC is old school. Bunch of older gents huddled around a wood stove. Lots of truck parts, grease and grime, just like a junk yard that sells all kinds of new aftermarket parts should be. Over the years I've gotten used stuff real cheap, reman alternators, starters, new rads, and aftermarket Mad Max style steel bumpers. When my wife hit a deer with my Ford van, I was able to buy all the parts for around half of what the insurance quote said they should have been.
I am going to have to pay them a visit. Thanks!!!!
