Anybody know where the oil filter is located? And is it a spin on or a cannister type? Google, ToyotaNation, the local library on-line source and the owner's manual (totally worthless) have failed me. I looked late last night and cannot find it. I have a 4runner with the same basic engine and know where that one is.

It's going to be a spin on, as I haven't seen a Toyota motor with a canister. I'm going to guess that you'll have to drop an aero cover to get to it. I have to on the LS400. There's a molded in hinge in the cover at the filter. Two 10mm head bolts and it will bend out of the way so you can get to the oil filter. If you have the same motor in the 4runner, look in the same place, but likely hidden by the aero cover.

I was unaware that Solara owners changed the oil.

Nothing to add other than DangerZone lists the filter as a spin on:

I found one source that said the 2007 3.3 had gone to a cartridge type. But all the vendors show a spin on. A lttle confusion on my part. I can see my 4 runner filter from above, just can't reach it from above. I saw the aero screen last night, just didn't want to fiddle with it and this car is LOW.

This is my wife's car, not mine. But if you want "quality time", you do what you have to do.

Thanks for the input guys.

A few seconds on google produced this entire 9 minute video instruction.

Located under car, not like picture shown above but rather re-usable canister with drop in paper filter.

Additional: the video also says that there are instructions in the owners manual on how to reset the trip computer to remind you of new oil change. Darn good video.

That's perfect! I swear I looked at work and at home on Google. Now you see why I came here. I don't recall my manual having the reset procedure, but I got that for Toyota Nation.

I wonder if this filter setup is in response to the sludge problem they have had.

Going to have to do the old newton meter conversion and find a new filter housing wrench ting. though.

If it is a 3.3 i'm pretty sure it will be it is right under the front exhaust manifold and is a spin on type.... I'm pretty sure the solara still carried the 3.3 which is the old timing belt motor due to the fact it is based on the last gen camry platform, the 3.5 is a chain motor on the new gen camrys and has a cartridge filter located underneath the car

This is the cartridge filter part number http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Genuine-Toyota-Oil-Filters-Box-of-4-filters-New-A1_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3a52b3bc3bQQitemZ250495614011QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

UPDATE

Well I changed the oil this weekend. It is a spin on filter located on the front left corner of the engine up under the exhaust manifold. Cna't be seen from aboove and barely from below. But, it si east to do by feel.

I found more contradictory info on this task than i cared to. Thanks for the reponses. Oh and the owners manual has absolutely nothing about resetting the light
