I would like to give everyone a big round of applause that participated in the 2008 challenge. My personal favorite was the Shadow, but all of the entries were awesome. The VW bug was absolutely crazy, loved it. It was my first time attending a grassroots meeting and I hope to compete in one sometime. Once again ya'll were great, thanks

I have to agree with Jrao83. Great time and some incredible builds.
A big thank you to all From the Boys in Canada.. the 23 hour drive home was not that fun. But we had an great time with all,and hope to see you next year with somthing that not sick when we get there.
IWELDIT, formerly known as TattoedWelder, burned a hole through the flesh on his kneecap while welding up my tow dolly. he said it didn't hurt, but it sure smelled like the part of the chicken breast that falls into the coals.
The Canadians showed some pretty incredible perseverance during the challenge. Replacing main bearings in a parking lot is hardcore.

and staying up till 5:30 the night before helping another challenger weld in some safety nets makes it even more so not to mention i'm pretty sure only half of the Toms was sober in the morning for the bearing swap. wish i had a picture of that bearing.. "forged" bearings indeed.
It was IWELDIT/TattoedWelder who was upholding Canadian honour (as opposed to honor) as I called it quits around 2:30 (and three of those aluminum panels to the rear trunk of bluej's Toyzilla - note to self: I need a better cordless screwdriver for next year). And he was the one doing all the work Saturday morning, I was just handing him wrenches.
I have that "forged" bearing sitting right beside me on my desk, I plan on mounting it or getting it framed with a couple of the replacement bearings with notes on "before" and "after". Funniest part was when Tom Cooper (IWELDIT) handed me the toasted bearing. I looked at the replacement ones and told him we were done because the replacements were the wrong ones - they didn't have the flange that the one he pulled out had. When Tom explained to me that it wasn't supposed to have a flange I understood just how pooched our motor was.
I will gladly post a picture of the bearing in question or e-mail it to anyone interested. TIA.
On an unrelated note: anyone want to buy a slightly used Toyota Celica Alltrac?

I don't know about you guys, but after spending so many weeks (months) in the garage, I have a bit of an empty feeling with nothing to do on the Tracer (yet). I spent the evening in the garage cleaning up the mess that thing made though the build. I'm not complaining, however, as the new found free time will definately rock...it's almost like a vacation .
I can't wait until next year!

yep. i unloaded the van monday morning, and left the car in the driveway. one of these days, i'll clean up the garage and put the car back inside.
my kids are taller than they were when i started the build....

I cleaned up the garage last night and started sanding a fender for next year's Challenge.
My "After the Challenge, honey" list has gotten a bit overwhelming. I'm really looking forward to having more than one running car out of five.
No kidding. One week before the challenge, the heater core blew in my Passat, filling the passenger compartment with steam and coolant. My 944 still has a bent lower control arm. The Rabbit wasn't running until the night before the event, and even then not right. Then there's the DeLorean with fuel issues in the Garage. I'm left driving an Escort with very minor rod knock, and still have a E36 M3 load of work to do to the house. With all that going on, I'm planning my $2009 build, along with scheming with Andy about his $2009 build. '09 should be a good year.

No doubt. I woke up the next morning reaking of chlorine instead of beer. I didn't feel right.
