Who's going to make it? What are you building? Brag, talk smack, and show off here.
Planning on making it, we'll see how PTO balances are. Have to go to Texas for a week and a half two weeks prior to the Challenge.
Buttttt....
Bringing a 1990 MX6 GT Turbo. And i do mean TURBO.
Stock motor, stock trans, looks like hell, goes like hell. If i can catch traction, we'll see a DEEP 12 out of her.
In race trim at the challenge, without nitrous, should weigh about 2300lbs, and make 325whp/400+wtq, and will likely handle like crap. Count me in on the shock/awe crowd. I'm not winning anything.
But to talk smack? I'm gunning top 3 FWD drags. In my daily driver. I ran the time in my signature on street tires, full interior, and with a smaller turbo.
I'll be there. My Firebird, I'm not so sure. If it does, hopefully it will improve upon the general record of 3rd gen F-Bodies at the challenge. Thats the bar I'm trying to get over.
My girlfriend and I will be there, we are trying to make it in under a grand and are not at all competitive in nature.
The car is a 1996 Saab 9000 cse; not your typical tuner car at all but surprisingly capable when pushed hard. Some more info can be found at www.codenamesmith.com.
My goal is something like : over 200 whp and under 3000 pounds for maybe a 13.99 in the quarter if the weather is good. Finishing in the top half through the cones would be very nice.
I might actually be in the running for longest drive award? Seems like a lot of people trailer their challenge cars.
Tom: I will probably bring her out to the wicked big meet next weekend. You are, of course, welcome to take her for a spin if you like... the car not the model...
I'll be there with Pseudosport and a couple of friends from up here in MA. I think we're bringing the Miata we brought last year, with some upgrades. All I know is that we are going around NY and NJ. Tolls there are $$$$$$$$$!!!!
I've seriously been counting the days since we left the hotel parking lot last year. It was probably the most fun I've had messing around with vehicles, the GRM staffers put on a great time and are a class act, and it was fun meeting equally insane car nuts from all over the place. I can't wait!!!
86 bmw 535i - as it sits I'm under $1k and still in caveman class 72 mgb - exhibition but it has to make a showing
The Howdy Civic is going to be looking super-fly and be more sorted out than it was last year, and the Miata of Doom will be there to tear E36 M3 up.
We've got a website for our program with build threads for both at saeintl.tamu.edu.
I'm not sure how many people we'll be bringing, probably between 10 and 12. We'll be staying at the host hotel this time, I got the feeling we missed out on too many shenanigans last time. I'll be bringing a case or two of local brews to share/bribe.

I commute from worcester to nyc and philadelphia frequently... it is not always a pleasant drive to say the least...
When we get a little closer to september I would definitely be willing to try to plan a route and caravan with the rest of the new englanders. I consider getting the car there as the first part of the challenge and believe in safety in numbers.

It could be a possibility. Keep this in mind though (kinda long, but funny):
Last year, we bought a $1000 97 F150 with a V6 to trailer the car down with. The truck was in great shape, with only 79,000 miles on the clock. Or so we thought. On the way to pick me up at my house, Greg (Pseudosport) pulls up with the freshly done front brakes smoking. We take them apart, can't find anything wrong, and slap it back together to get the trailer. We pull up to the trailer place 5 minutes later, and the brakes are smoking AGAIN. We take it apart again. We find that the anti-rattle clips are hanging up the pads so we toss those and slap it back together. We get the truck back to Greg's to load the car up. Trailer lights don't work. After spending a couple hours trying to figure that out, we find out that Ford put a "secret" trailer lighting fuse box under the hood! We toss in a new fuse and off we go. Or so we thought.
We get onto Route 95S and the truck is vibrating from the front end. Guess what? BRAKES ARE SMOKING AGAIN!!!! So, we pull off the highway and into an Advance Auto Parts lot and buy a set of loaded calipers that they luckily had in stock and slap them on over the now-purple rotors, all while the trailer and car are dangling off the hitch, and get back on the road. FINALLY, we get underway for real!!!
We wanted to leave at about 10AM, and we actually hit the highway in one solid piece at about 8PM. But don't worry, don't let that scare you. We bought another $1000 tow rig, this time it's a 1995 Chevy Suburban 2WD with a 217,000 mile 350 and a tow package! Hopefully, it will be well sorted by the end of September, and with any luck, it will even have A/C!!!

There is a car there?
In reply to SilverFleet:
That is a good story, hopefully things go more smoothly for all of us this year. It actually reminds me of returning north from one challenge (2000?) with Mike (problemaddict) and having similar issues. We spent several hours in a stucky's parking lot off of 95 trying to get brakes/lights/trailer all happy working together.
Now... a little bragging.... The worst part might be that you would have to stop for gas every 30 minutes while I can get about 600 miles on a tank with the a/c on...

Tried crossing my eyes and staring real hard. Still don't see a car.
It appears I have stumbled onto a totally new technique for attracting attention to your car... put a hot chick next to it!
For the record, that particular model is not actually my girlfriend; although my actual girlfriend has modeled in the past...
