Brother's Altima is pinging on light acceleration. Also, engine stumbles at idle and settles down a bit lower than usual. Car has 47k miles, well maintained. Perusing the Nissan forums has me believing that this is "normal." Any things in particular to check?

The pinging is a known problem. A decent decarbonizing treatment may help. Idle, I'd clean the throttle body and relearn the base idle.

This. Does he usually granny it around? A couple techron treatments and a cleaning of the iac, maf and throttle body plus an Italian tuneup wouldn't be a bad start.

Okay. I'll tell him to take it out and romp on it a bit.

It needs premium petrol. How about a knock sensor?
