My daughter is looking at one with all the bells and whistles for 24K . Are there any known issues? A google search didn't turn up much.

I think it is the same platform as the Ford Edge. 24k seems steep, but maybe they don't depreciate much? When we bought our new CX-5 in Jan of 13, they had a leftover new '12 CX-9 that they must have had a bounty on -- really wanted to move it. They offered it at 27k.

This past February, we drove away from the dealership with a brand new 2015 sport model CX9 for $24k after discounts and incentives.

Love the car so far.

theres likely going to be a few thousand dollar difference between a Sport model and a fully loaded Grand Touring.

My sister has a 09 Grand Touring that they bought preowned, they love it and haven't had any issues. I think they are around 90k miles on it. The 09 looks the same as the 12 so I am assuming they are mostly the same underneath.

Look at the IIHS crash report. Worst ever. If that kind of thing matters to you.

Ouch. Never good when there are parts flying off the crash test dummy.

The IIHS only implemented the small overlap test in August of 2012. As cars are not re-engineered every single year, and the CX-9 is getting a bit long in the tooth, it's a little hard to find fault in the failure of test it wasn't designed to withstand. I'm sure my X-Terra would fail miserably too. Sorry if that sounds cross but that argument is getting a little tiresome with the Consumer Reports crowd and the disaster of the moment media.

There's a few complaints about premature brake wear and a couple of complaints about transfer cases leaking. Other than that I've rode in the back of a few and I fit well (5'11" 230 lbs) and everyone I've talked to about them really likes theirs. I'm considering one once the redesign takes place due to the rumor of the Skyactiv diesel and getting the full Skyactiv lightening treatment.

Oh and the infotainment system sucks hard, but I don't care for many of them anyway.

Wow. Check out the XC90 crash test:

That's quite a difference.

Bought our used cx-9 with 30k on it 2.5 years ago. Grand touring trim level gets HID low beams, well optioned including tow package. Car has been flawless. The trans is great, but doesn't hold a lot of fluid, change it every year. Drives better than everything else that was similar, had usable third row seat. Averages about 20 mpg. Jcamper

You're right, but The0retical makes a very good point in that the Volvo is a new generation introduced in 2014, when the new crash test parameters were known and worked into the design. I'm sure the next generation of Mazda will perform equally well.

We've had ours for a few years and love it. Drives great, plenty of space in the back for strollers and other baby junk. The third row is rarely used, but it makes the cargo area longer than other SUVs in the same class and we've used it a ton. We looked at Hyundai, Toyota, Ford and a few others when we bought it in 2012. We bought it expecting to own it for 5-6 years, put 120-150k miles on it, have two kids and essentially destroy the thing.

As others have noted, it's an older design with an older engine and infotainment system. It isn't anywhere near as fuel efficient as modern vehicles (we get 16-18 with the AWD) but it's been dead-on reliable and we haven't had any issues with it.
