I recently test-drove a 2012 Mustang V-6. However, between the 2013 Mustang V-6, 2013 Genny Coupe Turbo and the Toyobaru, 2012 is looking to be an interesting year for fans of front-engined/RWD coupes. First, the Mustang is getting one last refresh before the live-axle era ends in 2014or 2015. Ford has released a teaser:

The full thing gets unveiled this weekend at the 2011 LA Auto Show.

Also, the 2013 Genesis Coupe gets a new front fascia and vented hood:

While I'm not a fan of either, I do like what I'm hearing about what's under the hood: A GDI 3.8L V-6 with 345hp and 295lb. ft. of torque and a 2.0T I-4 with 271hp and 275lb.ft. of torque, with a new twin-scroll turbo and intercooler.

Maybe they fixed the ugly tail on the Mustang, awaiting full pictures.

345HP Gen Coupe is amazing!

271HP Turbo-4 Gen Coupe might even be better!

I was hoping for that also, but IMO they didn't. What's worse is that I think they also messed up the front end, which I DID like.

There will be a Toyota and a Subaru version: Toybaru. The Toyota version will be called something like the Scion FT86, the Subaru the BRZ.

I think Subota would be a better name.

FT86 was the name of the concept, the Scion will be called the FR-S.

For the unaware, FT86 is a reference to Fujiwara Takumi (from Initial D) and the AE86 Corolla (aka Hachi-Roku).

Actually, I'm nearly certain that the "FT" in FT86 is "Future Toyota". At least, that is what they were saying in the magazines.

This is definitely a "golden age" for performance cars. When we look back at it 40 years from now, it'll far exceed the 60's era of muscle cars. In 20 years, the change has been amazing. Sure is a long way from this:

To this:

The base 1992 Ford Mustang 2.3 had 105hp.

The base 2012 Ford Mustang is over 300hp. 75 more than the Mustang GT in '92.

If only I had the funds to take advantage of this golden age....

Just you can be sure that somebody owned the car before you bought it

The only car that does anything impressive is the 5.0 mustang GT.

Everything is still under powered and needs modding.

Really? I take it you weren't of driving age back in the 80s and early 90s and the best thing you could chose from (unless you were ultra rich) was 250hp or less.
