I know there's not a lot of love for EVs around here, but jeebus, that's a bit of torque for that tiny thing. All available from 0RPM.
Kinda nifty I suppose.
DOUBLE WRONG. :)

Actually, lb-ft is correct. Pounds of force times length of the lever arm, not divided by it.

That's what my HF torque wrench says, so it must be right.
Yes, definitely "torques".
Also, I love electric motors. I've wanted to drive a full-size slot car since I was 5!

Yes torques is the cromulent word here. You need to embiggen your vocabulary
In reply to bravenrace:
Yeah, you've never said "mags", "diff", "posi", "carb", or "boss" before, huh?
I suppose I'll get off your lawn now.
There is only one torque. It's magnitude may change, but there is only one torque around the axis.
Now if you're talking about birds and the ring of feathers some have around their neck, that would be different. Then the proper word is indeed torques.
It has many much torques.
I like the "White Zombie" as my fast electric car of choice.

Those are short versions of longer words. Torques is not only incorrect technically and grammatically, it's LONGER than the word it is replacing. Saying torques has no value and just makes the person doing it sound stupid, IMO.

I had a Romanian friend that used to refer to it as torch.
In reply to bravenrace:
I am with you as far as saying torques instead of a unit like lb*ft. I want to Sparta kick around who says "torques" in the chest.
In reply to bravenrace:
Torques is longer than "pound feet"? Come on man, you're being a pedantic old coot and you know it.
I find it more interesting that stock for stock, it's the fastest (in a straight line) of the subcompacts that I can think of (ie Mazda 2/Chevy Sonic/Honda fit/etc).
Though that discussion is "irrelevant" since it has an EV price range not a subcompact price range. So really only subcompact in size.

Ha, maybe if I just place subtle on topic posts, it will eventually steer that way.....
I couldn't love GRM the magazine or the website more, and believe me, I don't like to be the P.C police or anything or the guy who has a problem with everything thing, but I do have a problem with this... I find it a bit offensive that you use terms like “pound feat" and "Torque booster" for your little automotive thingies or whatever in the discussions. I myself am not a mouthbreathers, but I feel sensitivity for people with who are, as I am a student living among them, and my Girlfriendes are pursuing there masters in the fields.
These terms although I'm pretty sure are not even real words, are obviously meant to resemble the words used to describes people with metric crescent wrenches, and it appears that they are used on these boards in a joking sense which, as I view it, makes light of people who are afflicted with rotary motors
One of the many things I don't get about EV's and Hybrids is the amount of 'fancy' electrical extras they have. Power windows, computer screens for the radio and climate control, nav systems, etc. Look at the new Tesla sedan, there's a huge computer screen in the dash! Why add all this stuff that will only put more load on the battery and reduce range?
Wouldn't roll up windows, a very basic anolog speedometer, and simple radio be better? Lights, wipers, and heat should be the main draws after the motor itself. Yeah, A/C is needed in some ares, make it an option.

I daresay that the Tesla has all the "fluff" because of target market. They're not cheap, and therefore expected to do "not cheap things."
In reply to Gearheadotaku:
You know, I thought that same thing. Apparently (and this goes for the Tesla, too), most electrics have a regular 12V system to power all of that stuff (nav/radio/infotainment, HVAC, gauges, lights, etc) that's completely divorced from the actual electric drivetrain. So basically you just have a big 12V battery that goes flat every once in awhile? (I have no idea how they recharge it, or what load that places on the propulsion batteries, if any, etc)
