I'll be racing GTS with NASA at Hyperfest so... at least I'll get to attend one of these $20xx Challenge shindigs as a spectator.

I'm sure a few sponsoring companies for the show would be happy to put me out on the track for special benefit events. This will be a fun year.

I am an ordained minister at the Universal Life Church. I can officiate a wedding. There will probably be BBQ again, so the catering is already taken care of and the venue's locked down. What more do you need?

You came up in a couple discussions that mentioned how some of the past greats weren't involved anymore. Sure would be neat to see what you could come up with after a few dormant years to dream up evil things!

We realize it's a somewhat tight deadline, but the opportunity pretty much fell in our lap.

If I decide to dip my toe back into the GRM pool it would be a ten year gap since I last entered a Challenge. The short fuse on the 2014 event would dictate either a less ambitious effort or the "refining" of a previous attempt.

Hope to see you there Denny! The location is close enough that it my just pull me out of hiding too. ( not that this will be a threat to anyone except the back markers... lol )

So, I'm an idiot and can't find it: where did they announce the 2014 Challenge location?

I'm assuming they got the weekend since Lemons dropped it. I'll miss racing there with Lemons, but maybe I'll be heading to Summit Point that weekend anyway! Now to figure out a car...

I don't want this to be taken the wrong way by those who have competed. Nor do I wish to minimize anyone's efforts, but after looking over the last couple of years I can't help but notice the rarity of let say "overly ambitious" efforts. My question for GRM has not changed since 2004. Are you trying to present to your readers what the average guy can do in his driveway armed with only the desire to race and $20xx or are you trying to expand the readers idea of what is possible if they are willing to push themselves? Tim, Margie, and Tommy's ( Wow, How did he grow up so quickly) answer to this question will dictate if GRM wants the "what is possible" cars back. Sean as you know I have only one intensity setting, If I enter the $2014 Challenge it will not be to pick up a participation award......I only play to win.

Depends on how you define the last couple of years and overly ambitious, but my 2010 effort was no small feat.

The Honda/Subaru was pretty ambitious, too. So was the blue Mustang and Morris Minor.

Yeah, I didn't mean to leave others out, just went off to check some notes. There have been a lot of very ambitious and skillfully built cars, I don't really think that's changed at all.

We want to see cool cars that inspire our readers.

It could be a mild car that inspires someone to simply get off the couch.

It could be a radical car that inspires someone to build the coolest freaking car on the planet.

Denny

As I remember back, 2002, 03, and 04, I don't recall that the population of overly ambitious cars were that high. There was your team doing the BMW in 02, the Miata in 03, and your CRX in 04, then Dan's van in 04, the side engine 510 one year, the SHO Fiesta, Andy's Nova in 04 (which wasn't a stretch, anymore than our car was). I guess one could call Pat's middie Corvair a stretch...

There were a handful of non-normal swaps, I guess- a Turbo ford B and a Turbo dodge Spitfire, a v8 914..... And a few other v8 swaps that were not unheard of.

Am I forgetting a lot of cars that showed up? Or was that more than there is now?

Hmmm...Summit Point is only 4 hours from me...maybe I can make it to this one! Is this going to be the new location/format, or is this just a one-off, one year venue?
