I am an hour and a half from the track.. Trying to pull some people from the auto-x club together, but barring that...

Anyone in the DC-MD area want a willing set of hands? (I have no shop right now)

I'm in DC. I was there this year and I'll be there in $2014. There's a bunch of us on the board (and some who are known but don't post) in the area. I feel we have an opportunity and a bit of responsibility to make every effort we can to bring as many cars as possible to the event if we ever hope for it to be there again. We're the ones who are most to benefit from the change and should do our best to work with the time frame.

Even before this years challenge, I had been thinking that with all of us here, we should try to arrange some sort of social gathering. I'm still decompressing/readjusting to life-after-challenge-week, but would very much like to help get us all together to see what we can figure out.

on that note, I've tried to get my email associated with the board changed multiple times, but the association with an old spam email still persists. Please feel free to contact me at josh.sennett at the mail of googles.

No offense taken here for sure Denny. I have been a fan of the event since its first running and I think the real answer is both. Your over the top builds are some of the cars that got me off of the couch and into the game. The beauty of the Challenge to me at least is that it caters to all builders, as long as they understand their place.. (now I hope I don’t offend anyone)

I have done the Challenge both ways. I have gone with Andy Nelson and experienced the drive, desire and creativity needed to build an out of the ordinary car. I have also built and competed twice with my oldest son and my father in more of a lets put something together and go have fun deal. Both were awesome adventures, but very different.

I expect the over the top cars to be at the top of the leader board (as long as they are properly executed and perform.) I also expect cars such as our two solo efforts to be well received for what they are, but more mid-packish. (again, as long as they are well executed and perform)

There are also bound to be cars that don’t fit the mold… poorly executed over the top cars as well as an outstanding example of a well executed “in the driveway” kind of builds. A poorly executed over the top car can easily become a back marker, while a well executed “driveway” build just could be a spoiler at the top.

In the end though, no mater what anyone brings, its going to inspire someone… or at least help teach them something. I think the one thing that has rang true since the beginning of the Challenge is that there is no formula, no magic bullet.. Any type of car can win any year.

Bring you’re a game Denny, you better.. Someone may just surprise you.

Again, its good to have you back in the mix.

Sean, Seems that no matter how hard I try not to, I still have the knack for offending people. We will have to wait to see the revised rules and the official schedule before the decision can be made if we will be back in the mix. David, thank you for your reply......you have a future in politics.

Yeah, I've spectated or entered for about 10 years now. Cars are better now. Just as many oddball one offs and waay more that actually perform well.

LoL, well......if it happens to not be during a wedding, I'll be there either with a challenge car or just to spectate.
