So, the Touareg has been acting stupid. Laggy, smokey, no power one second. Easing into the throttle, it pours smoke and barely accelerates. Then running perfectly the next. Generally, it doesn't throw a code unless I absolutely pound on it.
The last report reads like this. The same codes show using VCDS or the Phoenix.

I cleared the codes and drove it to work this morning. It's still acting up, but didn't throw any codes. There is a sensor that is failing or something is getting stuck.
I'd shoot it with the parts cannon, starting with the mass air sensor, if the parts weren't so expensive. I have pulled live data, and nothing seems to be out of sorts. TPS, Mass Air all read properly and smoothly. Looking at the above list, where would you start?

Yeah, IMO those all point to low voltage, battery or alternator going away.

Came here to post the same thing.
Is it only acting up when it stops charging?
I considered that but the battery voltage was over 12v with the ignition on after sitting for 2 weeks. Watching it on the Phoenix, it stays in the 14v+ range when running so I dismissed a voltage problem.
I don't know how old the battery is. I'll graph the voltage on the way home and see how much fluctuation I'm getting.
The voltages didn't look bad but I tossed a battery in it anyway. It still had the OE battery in it.
What a pain that was. The damn battery is under the driver's seat.
Net result is zero improvement. Still dropping into limp mode without throwing a code.
I'm down to the boost controller or the MAS.
Or a common ground somewhere...
