Saw one yesterday in full Massachusetts State Police dress. All I can say is WOW. It looks like a Australian V8 super car!!!!. The front fender flair's are huge. Almost race car proportions. One if the best looking full size American cars I have seen in years.

I so hope that I can figure out a way to get one of these.

You can buy one new know as the Chevy SS. This is the last year offered and in this only year they are offering a manual. Expect a sticker price of $48k

The SS looks good. Theres a dark metallic olive-ish green color that is awesome.

I've seen a couple of unmarked Caprices for sale around the internet. They were just v6 cars though, which is a let down compared to the looks. I think you get 90% of the look, lower cost and much better parts availability with a Pontiac G8 though.

A think an SS would be a super nice "Dad" car. Large sedan with 4 doors, 6.2L LS motor, manual trans, RWD, optional magnetic shocks, super nice interior and pretty discrete styling for flying under the radar. Kind of the Americanized M5 for half the cost.

Driven a few of the Caprices at work when the NY State Troopers bring them in for major problems. Pretty nice cars. Definitely a car to be on the lookout for in a few years when they start retiring them from the fleet. Parts availability could be troublesome by then though.

The Chevy SS (or the "Just SS" as I've dubbed it) is one of GM's best kept secrets. IT's got very reserved but handsome styling, a great drivetrain and chassis and a surprisingly nice interior. They are a lot of car for the money. Too bad GM saddled it with a stupid/confusing name and never advertised it. Our '14 sat on the lot for a year and a half because no one knew what it was (A lot of people, salesman included kept calling it an Impala SS or Malibu SS). It ended up selling for a $10K discount simply because they wanted it gone, which was a helluva steal.

Dad tried to test drive a G8 GT when it came out and had the same problems when he wanted to try a Chevy SS.

1.) the salesman had NO idea wtf he was talking about when we asked to see one, we had to walk up to the car, put a hand on it to even get the salesman to accept that they had one.
2.) We were denied test drives and told that there was a market adjustment up for the car.

dad walked across the street both times to BMW and bought his car. 1. 2004 545i slightly used
2.) 10k mile 2012 550i m sport manual (1 of 5 or so known to be imported.)

Yeah, exactly. But GM's naming was poor too, which caused a lot of confusion. Everytime I mentioned it, people were like "Camaro SS?" "No, just SS" "SS what?" "Exactly."

High performance Chevrolet SS? The SS SS? Stupid name, cool car.

This is one of the reasons I can't stand dealerships. These people don't even know their own products.

Example: Ford salesman calls me, tells me they will give me $50 to come test drive a vehicle. I say ok, but I will only test drive a focus ST or fiesta ST. They answer, great! we have 7 focus S's in stock, I'm sure we can find something you like. I say, Focus ST does not equal Focus S. I generally tell the salesman to check the ford.com website for more info.

by the way, I just started looking a bit. I saw this thread and thought, oh, well this SS is probably just a slightly cheaper cadillac.

ATS-V = 60k, v6 twin turbo 450 hp
CTS-V = 83k, v8 supercharged 620 hp (same 6.2 ls base engine as the SS probably though)
SS = 45k, v8 NA 415 hp

Nope.

Figured this would happen once I saw the thing. I thought about waiting for the inevitable discounts and buying one, but decided I would just get out of the high performance giant sedan thing for a while.

I'm sure the argument goes a long way, but a Caprice SS or a freaking Impala SS, hell a freaking MONTE CARLO SS would have driven sales from all the rednecks that had one of those in the 90's...

Reminds me of a friend's 2 experiences with a dealership. First was he went to drive a used B15 Sentra SE-R. Dealership had sold it but told him, he should just get a regular Sentra because "there really isn't any difference between the 2 cars." He just gave the guy a stare and walked away.

Second was when he was trying to order his FR-S when they first came out. Dealership didn't have any in stock except for a single automatic car. He's there talking to a salesman and keeps telling her he wants to order a manual trans car in Asphalt. She seems genuinely baffled about why he wants to special order a car and wait rather than just buy the car that's in stock. Finally, after twenty minutes of patiently explaining to her and her still not getting it, he just says "You just lost a sale", stands up and loudly asked "Can I get a salesperson who isn't an idiot?". Another salesperson takes him over to his desk and within fifteen minutes the car was ordered.

The same thing happened with the only 2nd-gen CTS-V we got, which was a CTS-V wagon. It sat on the lot for 2 years and we lost our tail when it got deeply discounted. Never got another CTS-V after that. Meanwhile though, we move $115K C7 Z07s all day (Sold 4 of them so far. And this is in a town of 30,000 in an economically-depressed area)

Wait, they are actually making a car named SS? Like SS is now a model name? LOL. GM cracks me up. The car looks pretty nice and 0-60 is 4.7 seconds. Not sure if I've ever seen one in the wild or not, I doubt I would notice it.

The problem is that they got decent response for the looks, so they went and modified the impala to look similar...(which had a 1 year look before being remodeled to look like it due to horrible reviews.)

yeah, Chevy has a car called the "SS".. they market the hell out of it, but only in a little known race series that no one ever watches, where it is relegated to racing against Camrys and Fusions:

Yes, except here SS means Sport Sedan instead of Super Sport.

In reply to Coldsnap:

I wouldn't say quite that. These will be hampered by a limited supply of vehicles (Didn't make them that long) and a limited part supply. Also, I think the desirability of the drivetrain will keep prices relatively high.
