I've always been a Mustang person and owned a 2013 GT Track Pack car.

However, the new Camaro is intriguing seems to have a bit more stuff to make it reliable on track (Diff cooler if I read right and separate oil cooler vs integrated with the radiator), and like the redesign looks.

Camaro is a tad more expensive.

Which one would you buy and why?

it seems the new Camaro is a better weapon if bought solely for track capability. It's lighter, etc.

...BUT I'd still buy the Mustang over it based on preference of aesthetics and usability. Love the '15+ styling of whatever gen Mustang the new ones are.

I love both of them. I, like you, am a Mustang fan and love the look of both the new Mustang and Camaro.

I would buy neither one for anywhere near ask.

The New Camaro is an insanely capable car. Especially for a pony car. At $43k for the as tested price in the video for the V6 they are out of their berkeleying mind. No way in hell. You still can't see out of the thing in the real world.

The new Mustang is too heavy, it has turned into a true GT. But if the GT can't beat a Camaro V6 why bother?

Save your money and get a used FD Miata and let Keith sell you a kit when they become available.

^Nah, if I could afford that much I'd buy a GT350 and call it a day.

Regardless of how capable they are, I could not bring myself to not get a V8.

ALL THE TORQUES! Plus I love the sound of a V8. Neither of these cars is rational purchase, I miss having a V8.

The base 1SS MSRP is $37,800 on the web site.

I know when I special ordered my '13 Mustang, I ordered a base with the Track Pack, no other options. List was just over $33,000 and I paid something like $30,250.

So I'm sure if I walked in with a $1000 deposit and told them to order X, and they didn't have to do any real work, I could get some money off again.

The visibility issue is one of those things that once you spend a little time in one, you completely do not notice it. The first 15 minutes of ever driving one is a little jarring, but once you spend a while in one you get over it and realize that it isn't that bad. Between the side mirrors, inside mirror and backup camera you can see just fine.

I like new cars where the fans have to make excuses...

Unfortunately, I have moved to an urban area where blind spots like this aren't acceptable. Honestly, anything you can't see the ground 6" past the end of the car makes you nervous. It doesn't matter how long you have driven it.

The visibility is sucky in all modern sporty cars, except hatchbacks and covertibles with the top down.

I already had a Mustang, you get used to it. The BRZ has some nasty blindspots as well.

I thought you were thinking about a TL/TSX or Accord V6 6 speed?

Automotive ADD. I've got to the suspension/wheels/exhaust off the BRZ then sell the other track parts that have never been installed.

Then see what happens with job and living situation over the next few months, before I make any definite decisions on which direction I'm going to go.

The 16's are cheap right now that is certain. The 2017 Camaro SS has the FE4 mag shock option with the 1LE package and that is going to be monster.

I'm not a Camaro fan. And I like how the car wastes the BMW M4 in every category so people have to nitpick it for stuff like "I can't see out of it" when the visibility is perfectly acceptable. I've driven plenty of them through work (and no, that does not mean I am a GM fanboy, I actually tend to be a very harsh critic of them) and the visibility is just fine, and I'm 6'3". There's just a slight adjustment period the first time you jump in it.

I've got a 2011 Camaro SS. I'm 5'10" (long in the torso) and I don't have a problem with visibility. My son who is 5'7" has a problem with visibility in the Camaro and bought a 2016 Mustang for that reason. I like both cars and they drive very equal. I haven't driven a 2016 SS yet, but everything I've heard makes it sound very good. If I was choosing a new one today I would probably go with the camaro based on what I've heard of the new chassis, but I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

I know that for autocrossing, the Mustang Performance Package's gearing is all wrong. Guy I autocross with did well, but complained that it was always a case of never being in the right RPMs no matter what gear. A lot of bouncing back and forth between 2nd and 3rd gear.

Visibility is NOT an issue for people who know how to adjust it's power adjustable seat. Much easier to see out of my 2016 than ANY of the Miatas I had (with any top on).

Also, I can buy 1LE V6's all day long for just under $35k. The cars are incredibly well optioned in base trim.

Agreed. The visibility out of my Miata with the top up is atrocious. The Camaro is waaaaaaay better

Which is about what I paid for my 2016 GT Premium with Performance Package and that is the problem with the Camaro. GM made an excellent car and they are having to price it accordingly.

What dealer? That's $5000 off MSRP.

It looks like on the '17 the Mag shocks are a separate option, but included in the 1LE package, which is not on the build and price on the web site, and from what I can see online is a $6500 option.

Which takes the 1LE from $38000 MSRP to $44,500.

Here's an example that I came up with quickly in my area.

They don't make a premium performance pack that I've seen. I paid just over 30,250 for my 15 GT performance package before taxes and tags. 23k miles and counting so far, no issues yet. Gearing is a little short for autocrossing in 2nd.

Yeah, that was the first one I found. They won't necessarily say premium in the description. I look at the option package codes for 400A. Also, I negotiated a bit and they were ready to get my car off the lot (It's orange and I don't think that was very popular at the time). I'm not sure how much they are dealing on the 2017's but that's all I can find at the dealers.
