Fixed that for you. laugh

In reply to z31maniac :

I resent this statement since I often consider selling my NA and 996 to get a really nice used Boxster S....  it is completely comparable to an ND.  2012 Boxster S or ND2?

I don't think a used, expensive to maintain German car is comparable to a new, cheap to maintain ND2 (with a warranty).

Agree to disagree, YMMV, and all that.

Remembered some more.

Had a boxster ('99 996) for several years. Enjoyed it a great deal. At some point it became too cost prohibitive to maintain it at the level I wanted it to be. I sold it and bought another Miata (’99 10AE).
Cayman has been high on my wish list, at the top really, but haven’t been able to justify the cost of one new or nearly new.
A well optioned ND2 MX5 approaches used Cayman prices. But when the chips were down, and as many of my car buddies pointed out… with a new car comes a warranty. I still want a cayman, but this new ND2 MX5 is a really, really nice and fun car .
It's damn near the modern 2-door coupe I've been wanting for so long.

We spent a long time looking at Caymans. What it came down to for us is the miles. My wife wants it for commuting at that means at least 25k miles a year. It's far easier to look at a new (or two year old in our case) ND and believe that 100k miles in the next four years will require oil and tires and not much else. Looking at early Cayman S's that are further from new and already have 50-80k miles it's harder to make that call with confidence. If you put both cars next to each other and asked us to pick one for a drive we'd both pick the Porsche, but ask us to live with one and we threw our money at the ND. Time will tell if that was a good idea or not.

It’s the Tuesday after Shopping Weekend. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the weekend now. Shopping Weekend is non-stop work. Now all we have to do is ship all that stuff...

Used Cayman vs ND is an interesting comparo. I love that it’s actually a legitimate one. The owner of FM actually has a used Cayman and can offer some interesting insights from an owner of both. He has concerns about the complexity and cost of ownership of the Cayman and IIRC he thinks the turbo ND is quicker. I’d have to ask him again. Seth, you’ll be meeting him Friday, you can ask :)

For me I don’t have mileage or commuting concerns and my daily driver has a warranty and so does the wife’s DD. That changes things a bit.  I agree the new car offers a modernness and reliability of Miata’s is a proven.  I drove my 996 and NA both tonight after dinner.  Two cars couldn’t be more different yet both are fun.  For me the thought of selling both and getting a Boxster or ND is about simplifying maintenance, insurance and living in a city and having a 2 car garage.  I now have a challenge car to abuse.  Looks like autoX starts early in TX for 2019 too.

I can just get a lift and park the challenge car in the driveway behind them too.

True. I'm approaching getting an ND as getting rid of my "OMG I'm afraid of the $10k DCT in my 135i essploding" and having a convertible again that will likely be rock solid and cheap to maintain and do a few basic mods to.

I only have one car these days and commuting isn't a concern for me. Probably 2000 of the 4800 miles I've put on the car this year were brining it home (800+) and multiple trips to Tulsa and back (210 per).

Girlfriend has the "practical car" as a '15 Honda Fit. Although I'm hoping to get her into something a bit larger next year.

Yeah, I've seen multiple comments from both Keith and Emilio (949 Racing), that say "If you aren't prepared to leave the dealership with one, don't go test drive." There is one guy on MT.net that has had an ND1, just got an ND2, and also has a Fiat 124.

And that's why I haven't yet.

A part of me still wants a new Mustang GT, but I also know it would be just as frustrating around town as the 135i. IE, they are quick enough that a quick stab at the throttle = tickets or worse. I only had my 135i for 2-3 weeks before I got my first speeding ticket in a decade. And my short commute is all surface streets, so nary even an on-ramp to occasionally open it up and less we are going somewhere else.

I've driven 2 NDs and 1 124 and managed not to buy one. Believe me, I really wanted to. :) They are as good as people say. I'd be tempted by the 124 from a value play perspective and it also has the quieter GT top.

I don't know if I'd bother swapping a 135i for a Mustang GT, is there enough of a gain? If you want a larger fun car, drive a 2016+ Camaro before you make a decision.

^Drove an '18 SS 1LE last year. Loved it. All the track goodies are awesome, but I know I won't be able to go often to take advantage of it. And of course the big complaint, damn hard to see out of. But your right on the Mustang part, it would mainly be just about having that sweet V8 sound, I'm not sure that's compelling enough to drop $35-40k on a car. smiley

I like the idea of the supercharger or turbo on the ND.
