Hopefully they will use the FA24 and eek out some power, while not also adding a ton of weight.

My current plan is to hold onto the Mazda 3 until next fall, or spring 2021, and see what happens with new STi, what happens to C7/GT350 prices, and a few other vehicles.

Seriously. Subaru, we've proven we can handle 300hp. Give us at least 350hp

That's what I'm hoping for. I've always wanted a boost buggy. Even after driving an '18 STi at the end of '17..........I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. Peaky powerband and super-short gearing, I didn't like it. And the interior still felt a little cheap for a $42k car.

I see more than a couple of C7 Grand Sports with the manual trans on autotrader for 53-56k brand new... That's a monster of a car for that price. If used ones are following the same general curve there could be some terrific deals.
I'd get a CPO GLA45 over an STi without even thinking twice at this point, even if they updated it to 350hp. Until Subaru proves that they can make a turbo flat four capable of going 100k miles, why consider it?

The other guy I work with had to do a PPI on a '17 WRX, and he gave it a good run up the hill that is our street, "to make sure the clutch didn't slip".
I came to three conclusions.
1. That thing sounded awesome. This is the first time I have ever thought this about a Subaru four cylinder anything.
2. Whatever ricer blowoff valve was installed on it completely failed to throw away the boost during shifts and the turbo emitted a most pleasing, Audi S1 E2 grade chatter on shifts
3. There is no three, my brain kind of stopped working
If only they weren't so big and fugly.

I was literally just browsing C63s, but I was unaware that was a thing and now I don't know what I want to do anymore.
In reply to Brett_Murphy :
The GLA45 is a total child's car wrapped in a real estate agent's clothing. It burbles and pops like a Focus RS when it sport mode and grips like an Evoz though turn in isn't quite as crisp. They're an absolute riot.
Ever since learning of the FA24 I thought that a tuned version of it should be the next STI motor and hopefully with around 350 HP to help make it worth the extra $10k over a WRX. If that happens, in another few years I could see myself shopping lightly used ones to replace my 2015 WRX. Wanting one fun car to drive year round when we get 6" dumps of snow overnight makes car choice pretty limited.

I couldn't fit in the GLA45, the entire test drive I was pushing seat buttons in vain, trying to get the seat to move lower. Sucked because it seemed like a fun car.
Sadly it doesn't seem like Suby is going to give the STI the power it deserves, or bring back the hatchback version everyone wants.
The old pilot adage: Never fly the A model of anything. I'd give that engine a year or two to see if issues pop up. It's a turbocharged Subaru. There WILL be issues.
In reply to Appleseed :
its the engine from the ascent.

Didn't know those were a thing. Interesting for sure.
Maybe a CPO RS3? Those are pretty awesome.
Have to see what happens with all these awesome cars, new and used, and also the economy.

The Ascent engine seemed pretty good.
