I pulled the washer fluid holder to change my timing chain tensioner yesterday. Dangling below was this. I assume it's not meant to dangle. Any ideas?

Wild guess, thermocouple for in car thermometer?

I had a really good indie euro mechanic locally, and I pulled in one afternoon and did the same thing. Pop the hood, and asked "where does this go?" without saying anything he plugged it back into something er other and shut the hood. He waved good bye as he jogged back inside his shop. No money exchanged hands.

Do you got someone like that? That's what I'd do...

Yeah, I'm putting my money on thermocouple for the thermometer. I know the E30s had one in the brake ducts, and that's about the same area.

It looks metal, so put a heat gun on it and see if the temperature reading inside the car jumps.

The outside air temp thermocouple is in the driver's side brake duct. The windshield washer reservoir is on the passenger side. I've had that stuff apart before and I don't recognize that. Does your windshield washer work?

if it wasn;t snowing, I would pop the hood on my ti and root around for it. Tell you tomorrow!

BTW.. what year Ti? the 95 and earlier where M42 engines with a different injection system, the early 96s used the M44 with a slightly different emissions system (no air pump), and the mid 96 till end had the Airpump and traction control

It's a 99. It doesn't have a thermometer for outside air temp. The gauge on the dash seems to work and is accurate. I can't see any holes that are missing plugs. Windshield washer works fine.

Check your brake ducts. $5 you have a hole that fits right into. Mine was a 1996 and it was in the passenger side.

if the "obc" that the Ti has is reading outside temps.. you have the sender. It is a lot like this:

I am going out to brunch shortly, after I get back, I will pop the hood on my Ti and see if I can find that plug. No promises.. mine is an early 96 without the airpump

That was it. Thanks. Where do I send the $5?

Buy me, or a guy that looks like me (or doesn't) a beer and we're even.

I am sure I look like you and I know MW, so he can buy me a beer and we will be all good.

Just to confirm -- you look like Sean Connery in his best years, right?

Will do. I guess I'll buy zoo a beer, but he has to come out to get it.
