If it has a 1.8T, I would absolutely believe it.

In a FWD TT absolutely.

My Piece-a-ssat regularly rang out 30 with the 1.8T and it has much worse aero numbers and a bit more weight than the choptop Beetle.

I got 33 mpg in my Caravan once. I dont think anyone should doubt 32 out of a car like that.

You can chip it for more power, or for better economy. Perhaps he has modified it a bit.

I was gettgin 29-31 mpg from my 1.8T VW GTI. I think I even had some tankfuls at 33-34 mpg.

So quite possibe. I also have been getting 28-29 mpg with an occasional 30 mpg from my 3.0L auto E39.

I used to get 35-36mpg out of my manual trans 1.8T Passat. The B5 Passat actually had a really low cD of 0.29. I think the TT is worse than that but you should be able to see 32mpg highway if you keep your foot out of it.

most cars will give really good numbers at a sane speed if you keep your foot out of it. With the window cracked, the sunroof tilted, and the rear windows popped open.. at 60mph I have seen 38mpg in my 318ti

If it is anything like the 1.8T in my old A4 6 speed, it will have stupid tall gearing. got great mileage.

Yep. We went to Vegas and all the 1.8T cars (about 10 of them) got around 26+USMPG cruising at 140km/h. My 2.sl0w got WORSE mileage

Plus, if you did breathing/mileage mods, it's even more doable.

The 1.8 manual trans combo kicks ass in the mpg department. 34-36mpg on the highway was pretty easy in my old 1.8/5 speed Passat. It dropped to a terrible 32-34 if I was rolling along at 80 mph.
