Is there anything common with a 4" x 4 bolt wheel to be had from the junkyard? I just picked up a little trailer for nothing and it has those stupid tiny 8" wheels on it. I'd rather get some cheap 13's, 14's etc.

Do not use 4 X 100mm for anything other than rolling around in your yard.....won't center correctly, might come loose quickly and could cause lug or wheel failure.
northern tool and the like have new 4x4" trailer wheels for cheap. I have set of 13x5.5 inch cheviot wheels from my mini that i've been trying to sell. You would think the difference is insignificant.

100 mm = 3.9375
It's a half of lug bolt diameter off no matter how many times you spin it around. Won't work.

The local trailer place by me sells steel wheels new for $10-$20. I'll bet there's one by you too that has the same wheels for the same price.
Walmart and similar places sells the wheels with tires mounted for <$50. So does Harbor Freight.
I doubt junkyard scrounging would be much if any cheaper.
Another vote for Northern Tool. The last time I went there looking for trailer tires, it was just as cheap to buy a set of wheels with the tires mounted on them. They have larger sizes, 10", 12", 13".
On this subject: there's someone who makes an offset lug bolt? and I could use some for a possible upcoming project. Anybody have a line on those things?
I think fiat x 1/9 folks use offset bolts at times as their wheel fitament is a less popular size. I bet someone with an x might know of a source.

Actually it's I've done similar in the past. 4" = 101.6mm So 1.6mm diffenrence in the diameter. As long as you use hub centric rings, it should not be a problem. I worked at a wheel and tire place and we got a great deal on 400 wheels that were 4x98mm bolt pattern. They would slide onto the studs of a 4x100 car. We made machined up some hubcentric rings on them and sold all 400 wheels. We never had anyone come back complaining about shaking or shimmy's and these were mostly on hondas where you would definitely notice. If you did the same on a trailer I bet there would be no problem. I've also done the same and put 4x4.25" wheels on my 4x110mm RX7

Typicaly whats done is to get studs with a very large diameter and redrill the stud holes useing part of the old hole or turn the hub 45deg and redrill for the new pattern.

It's a lug bolt which has an 'offset' to allow the 'wrong' bolt pattern wheel to be used. Someone posted a pic and a link a while back and I can't seem to find it anywhere. FIAT 4x98 could use a 4x100, RX7 4x110 could use a 4x108, etc. Mr. Lugnut didn't show it.

The guys at the axle shop I have previously bitched about told me they could redrill my axles for 4x4 inches when I specifically stated I wanted 4x100mm and then 'you can just center the wheels and torque them down'. Yeah, right, bullE36 M3. I lost all respect for them over that one.
Um, sorry but all those were 4 x 4 1/2". Except maybe the Corvair. The MGB, TR6, 4 lug Toyotas and the early 4 lug Novas were also 4 x 4 1/2". The Pinto/Mustang II/4 lug Fox body were 4x 4 1/4 (4x108mm). The Jensen Healey, Midget/Sprite, Vega/Monza and Opel Kadett/GT were all 4x4". Spitfires and GT6's were 4 x 3 3/4" (with gigantical 3/8" studs).
Opels are 4x100mm, always have been. Don't know who keeps spreading that wrong information but no need for it here.
But the easiest and cheapest answer is going to be to just buy some trailer rims. Really, it is.
I stuck the Abomination rims on the GT I had and vice versa, never tightened them up since it was just for rollaround purposes. I just assumed the Opel was 4x4" since allegedly a lot of Opel stuff found its way under Vegas.
Vega and Isuzu don't share any parts to the best of my knowledge, H chassis and T chassis. Vega and Monza were all 'merican, best of what we had here in the good old USA.
Chevette, Opel, and Isuzu are all based on the same line, and are all 4x100.
The Vega is for sure a 4x4" bolt circle. The tranny in George Walton's Cosworth Vega is an Opel piece and the wheels for it were made by GKN in Britain. The front brake calipers are (IIRC) Kelsey-Hayes. Maybe the suspension was Vauxhall based; the Jensen Healey stuff is directly from a Vauxhall and is definitely 4x4".
