It "should" be the same as used in the 4AF. You don't specify what car it came out of.
Besides, needs a 20 valve.
Is there any mechanical diffrences in the motor between a 4ac from a fwd corolla and the rwd corolla?
None major, let's say. I don't deal with 4ac's much. As far as 4AG's go, check the location of the water hose connections. That's the main difference between FWD and RWD 4AG motors. Also, the distributor location and maybe the intake.
What are you trying to do here?
I wanna build a old school 8valve, i was gonna go with a ford cvh 1600 but i also like the 4ac... 80s ae fwd corolla are a dime a dosen and i like the body. So i wanna do a at home port and polish, msd ignition, a webber carb and schieder cam and valve springs and a custom exhuast on a 4a to have another fun litle project/ daily driver. I understand the sohc isnt nearly as good but its just a side project for fun
Well, if you're going to do that, I would personally start with a 4af block, which should be the stronger block of the later years. You can tell by the number of ribs on the side. Then do your head work to the 8V head and put it on there. I'm pretty sure the 4af had the same block as the 4ag. Different cranks, according to the EPC.
Oh, and your idea of a fun side project is almost as bad as mine. You'll fit in around here.
Does a 4alc have the same exhaust port spacing as any other fwd 4 cylinder motor? So i could maybe use a aftermarkert instead of a custom? Sorry for the very specific question haha
If you want to build an old-school 8-valve, go with the 3TC. Those have big potential, much unlike the 4AC.
I would second the 3TC motor if you want to stick with 8 valves. Those things have been built to insane HP levels. Dunno about your exhaust port spacing on the 4AC head. On something like that, you're blazing a lot of new trails. The 3TC is all worked out.
The 1.8 is equally easy to find, so why not? Original FWD configuration should make it even easier, or at least I think you're doing a FWD car?
Probably some information to be found here too: 4AC Powered Forums
There is some potential in building the 4AC... people often forget the 4AC was within 5 #/ft of a 4AGE... HP is another thing... but it can be done.....
With that said... Go and build a 3TC... if you want to keep 2 valves per cylinder
70's to Early 80's Corollas. Pre A block cars. Junk yards used to be full of them as the rest of the car around them returned to the earth. Who knows today. Here's what idiots know about them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_T_engine
So i bought a nice 87 corolla sedan, with a 4Alc 1600, it has 180XXX on it and runs very well, i need to know if the cam is interchangeable with a 4ac? Im planning on having it reground
Thank you to everyone that has posted helpful info and opinions about this fossil. Youve helped me alot.. GRM is one of the only forrums worth a damn, your comunity is awesome
