That James Davison wheel/brake failure was super cool and very weird.

Timely with the GRM wheel article, too.
And, oh did Alonso just get SUPER lucky. He was just about to go a real lap down when a yellow came out *just* in time. Now with all of the reshuffle, he's 15th and in a better spot.
With all of this yellow, it's a total strategy reset for all teams.
Oh, and very much too bad for Askew- he was quick, and well... bad choice to go that direction.

I take that back- Alonso is now a lap down. For sure it's not the team- O'Ward and Askew have both been faster than him. Odd that he could not figure out what to change in the car to keep up.
And now Rossi just crashed out. His team put him in that position thanks to a bad pit release where he ended up hitting Sato. The penalty meant he had to work through the field, and done. The car wasn't set well to run in traffic it looks, and he just could not hold onto the car.
The Indy cars sure are strange looking. The cars look like they have a covid face shield.
BTW, my money is on the 1967 STP Turbine car.
Man that was a vicious crash for Pigot. Glad to see him moving around, hope he's not too internally damaged.
I'm guessing they didn't red flag it because they can't fix that pit road safety barrier quickly and don't want to be sitting around for 2 hours just to do 2 green-flag laps.
Yea, I didn't see a realistic way to fix that quick enough for as much was left. 100 laps ago- they would have stopped the race and fixed it. But that was brutal- Pigot was standing, but laid down and was taken off via stretcher.
Sato! You had the car at the end, for sure. I don't see Dixon being able to pass had that gone green to the end. And I was really hoping for Rahal to pass Dixon- he had some speed, but not enough handling at the end.
Awesome race even with Covid-19. Dixon strengthens this championship standing. Great to see Rahal Lanigan Letterman win and place 3rd. Takuma Sato!
Congrats to Taku. He's always been fun to watch, and he certainly had the car to win at the end. I can't help but think Dixon must feel a bit robbed, he was in command the whole day.
But mostly I hope Spencer is OK. I was texting with Adrian, and we agreed that a few years ago that would have been a fatal hit. Still a really bad one. I'm glad to see him out of the car, but I can't imagine he escaped without injuries of some kind.

Robbed how? Sato had the better car at the end. Had that stayed green, I just don't see the order changing.
Maybe robbed because he led most of the race?
Yeah I was rooting for Sato and when the caution came out I thought, "Well Dixon will win it now probably" but that was if they had a restart. Happy that Sato got the win after all, he's a cool guy and now he's a two-time winner.
Pigot is reportedly awake and alert, taken to hospital for further examination. I hope he's able to get back in the car soon.

I agree. You can lead the whole race and still be outdriven at the end. It even happens (rarely) to the great Hamilton...

Well, we don't know, do we? He certainly had the field covered all day. There's no reason to think he couldn't have found a way past Sato at the end.
Keep in mind, I'm not saying he was robbed at all. The racing gods giveth and the racing gods taketh away. But I wouldn't be surprised if he's pretty frustrated that they didn't red flag it and try to finish under green.
Kaboom. All the kaboom into the end of pit wall. It's easy to forget how dead two people would have been today if it was 20 years ago.
Hinch must be cursing his transmission, or anti stall, or whatever had him sitting in the pitstop so long.
I like seeing races end under green, but a two lap shootout always berkeleys the guy who had been leading. I hate late restarts almost as much as winning on gas mileage.
Sometimes you can have the race most of the day due to the person with the better car and setup laying in waiting pushing you just to see what you actually have.
Watching the Indy 500 has been an important tradition between my dad and I for as long as I can remember.
For example, last year, I raced home from Penang, Malaysia (40 hour trip door to door), took a shower, got 3.5 hours of sleep, and was up to watch the race with my dad and two buddies the next morning.
Well, this year's race witnessed the next generation of the Reven' family taking a real interest in the form of my 15 y/o daughter Sarah:
She's a big fan of Rinus Veekey (19 y/o Rookie from the Netherlands) who's one good looking young man...thanks for getting her hooked Rinus, I owe you one.
In terms of Dixon being robbed, it looked to me like Sato blocked him. Sato seemed to jerk his car to the right and go out of his best line as Dixon was attempting a pass. In my view, if we want to celebrate Sato for something it would be for perfecting the art of blocking enough to be successful while not blocking enough to get a penalty. I think he crossed the line but obviously the officials didn't so now "blocking lite" will be an important skill to have going forward.
Monte Python...
Waiter "We've got blocking, blocking, blocking, fair racing, blocking, and blocking...that's not too much blocking."
Customer "I don't like blocking."
In reply to RX Reven' :
Pagenaud did the same thing to Rossi last year. So apparently that's ok in Indycar.

Yes, I remember.
What was the term the announcers used to describe Sato's move today (interfering or something). Come on, that's just a euphemism for blocking.
Whatever, the officials let it go, I wouldn't have but I respect their call so that's the end of it.
Dixon said they thought they had Taku on fuel and I bet they were correct. I have a hard time feeling too bad for him though considering he's basically locked up the championship.
The Robin Miller report confirmed that it would have taken an hour to fix the pit lane attenuator, so NBC made them finish under yellow. I am going to sound like a grouchy old man, but I pay good money to get the indycar stream (otherwise how else can I see all the races, qualifying, etc?) , and the biggest race of the year is cut short so the network can show the evening news? What a crock.
