I'm guessing it looks a lot like Maschinenbau's old ND after the crash.

My dad owns one! Decent car and very reliable but mind-numbingly boring to drive!

For your entertainment:
It was at this point I thanked him for (finally) sending a driver's side picture and informed him that I pulled a Carfax on it (Thank you Steve_Jones) and didn't like what I saw. Luis didn't like that move.
In reply to Curtis73 (Forum Supporter) :
Very impossible. Poor Luis, not understanding the internet. Wonder if it pops up with no plates in the photos next.
Funny that the drivers side looked better than we thought...once we saw it.

'09 w/181k @ $2.7k is a nice price.
I think the rear bumper cover has once been replaced with an aftermarket unit. I say this because all aftermarket start black and are then painted. When that paint wears off, the black is exposed.
Could just be a shadowing but it looks like the passenger front door has had paint given some color change.
The rocker rust is not a big concern. These cars aren't known for rear suspension rust through and that rocker is more cosmetic than it is structural.
I'm not familiar with the issue of gas gauge not working.
Pro tip on Prius hunting in the Mid Atlantic, Northern VA and the 270 corridor. Well cared for commuter cars often owned by people who've had the ability to work hybrid since the pandemic, so less salt exposure.

The guy is a first officer for a cargo airline......not sure if that's a sign he's legit or not. I'd keep at him for more info .
Dang it... I always do this. I go for the really responsible choice and then I can't bring to lay money down on soul-sucking performance. Last week I was looking a Priiiii and 500s. Then someone reached out to me with a message for a couple Miatas. No names, but his initials are berkeleying captndownshift
Now I'm over here looking for an E46 buyer's guide and wondering if I should include S2000s. To add to this melee, I'm not in a rush, which means my flowchart of a brain is looking for an easel and a spreadsheet to narrow them down.
Maybe this is why I'm single.
In reply to Curtis73 (Forum Supporter) :
and here I was thinking about offering you my prius so I could go buy an e46
A nice S2000 is going to FAR MORE expensive. Those things have really ratcheted up in value the last 8-10 years.

I suppose I should ask more about it. So I am.
it's Dusterdb13's old one I bought 2 years ago:
it needs a new front pax wheelbearing (which I've been procrastinating on). and the 12v got a little weak while it was sitting, so it's been on a trickle charger for a ~2months. it has fresh struts all the way around; but the same tires from Dusterdb13's ownership.
so, this wouldn't be a "fly and drive"... it'd be best to figure out how to drag it up your way, unless I can get clear of snow/cold long enough to try and swap the hub (and not make an absolute hash of the job).
*there may be some other nigglings waiting to be attended to that I've forgotten about, or have raised their head while its been sitting.
You could have a really sweet, GRM-vetted, three-Steve beater and still have $2k in gas money left over:
Granted, it's probably not a fuel economy champ, but it's bound to be better than the van, and looks like a super nice place to be.
In reply to sleepyhead the buffalo :
For context:
Prius wheel bearings sell on RockAuto for about $100 for a good one like SKF or Timkin (or as low as $30 for the chinesium version) so expect a shop will charge $200 for the part. The job books-out at 2.5 hours x $100 per = $250 or a grand total of just under $500 to have any shop do the work. There is nothing hybrid-special about the job. Similar to same on a Corolla.
Last time I bought a Prius 12v battery which is a AGM battery the best price was actually Rock Auto even with high shipping charge to a net of just under $200.
Getting a Prius from Metro DC back to Harrisburg, PA could be as easy as a Uhaul dolly pulled by the Chevy van...less than $50 for 24 hrs for a "local" rental which means taking it out empty and returning full. You could rent One-Way but it would likely cost more but still probably less than a 2 day rental ($100). Actually, since you have a van, rent the full car hauler. It's $10 more per day but is much more pleasant to tow with while empty.
In reply to John Welsh :
I actually got quoted back in November $785 after tax, by the local shop attached to a gas station, for the job. #NOVAThings
In theory, it is not a hard job to DIY. What makes it hard is rust but this should be a rust-free car. The rust makes the steel hub not want to release from the aluminum knuckle. In a non-rusty example a slide hammer should be all that is needed to pop the hub out.
As for battery, since it is trunk mounted I just put another battery (from any car) and a set of jumper cables in the trunk. Jumping to the dead-ish battery is super easy. Same with just a jumper pack too. Ive had times where i did not have a proper sized battery that would fit in the dedicated well so I just jumpered to a GMC van battery I have . I put clamped cables onto the Prius battery leads and drove only on the GMC battery which sat in the spare tire well
Curtis73 (Forum Supporter) said:All of the Miatae get decent-enough mileage. It's hard to find a nice one for $5k though.
Seriously, if you are willing to go something not hybrid....zx2. 5k will probably buy you the best example in the world at this point
They are fun to drive, full of proven parts and even if I drive the hell out of mine it gets 32mpg. They are faster than you'd think and lots of people race them in various forms.
Plus my wife has had to use mine as a winter car for 2 years and they are superb in winter. It's a really great all around car.
Might as well ask in here...
How difficult is it to manual swap an NC Miata? I believe it's quite difficult because of canbus. But a PRHT in need of a 2.5 swap for under $5k is worthwhile, if the manual swap can be done.
