If you don't buy it, I'll find a way to get it off the Island... I'm semi-local'ish.

Not even sure why you are questioning getting it, that thing is awesome. Go load it up on the boat already. One way ticket should be about $140.

I keep looking at that engine bay picture and imagining a set of ITBs and a curly snaking equal length header. A set of low back buckets with plaid in the center and a birds eye maple steering wheel and shift knob. It might not be fast, but the sounds and smells and tactile feedback could be spectacular.

Money is on its way to the seller today with a co-worker who is headed out to the island today if they start running ferries again due to the high winds. I am well versed in getting things on and off the islands here, but this week has been crazy with getting this thing off, as the ferry schedule hasn't been in sync with my schedule. Meaning the last ferry off the island is 5:30pm, and I have been working until 4-5 pm all week, so it hasn't been possible. I may have it sent over on the last boat today unattended, and pick it up on the other side at 7:45 pm.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Please start a build thread, even if it's not much more than cleaning it and driving it.

How much does that swap cost? I have plenty of room on the challenge price with this one.

Those cars are great. In 1988 I was working at a car dealership that took one in on trade. I was the general purpose do the odd jobs guy. I drove all over town on company business daily. I stashed that car at the back of the lot and drove it for about 4 months. One of my buddys bought it for $600 and drove it for years. I wish that I had bought it.

Not Challenge friendly, unfortunately.

What you CAN do is dump in a 3tc pretty easily for some displacement and power gain, then convert to EFI.

There's usually a LOT of 3tc stuff floating around, and it's typically pretty cheap. About 3 years ago i was about to pull the trigger on a 3tc car, and checked Ebay on a whim. Big ported heads? $250. Big cams? $100. ARP rod bolts? $40.

And if you get bored.... the 3tc will take a LOT of boost.

Challenge car... then the TG is WAAY out of budget.

Since TC(either 2 or 3) is a hemi chamber... I'd build the bad boy to have as high a dynamic compression ratio as you dare... keep the cam sane, and the compression high. And yes 3TC performance parts are like Chevy perofmance parts... plentiful and cheap

Even the 2tc will too. I have ridden in a blow through turbo 2tc car that made 30 psi on a t3/t4 around 300 whp in a 81 coupe corrolla. If it didn't leave the line all bent out of shape and breaking up it probably would have gone DEEP 11s in the quarter. 2nd gear hits, it stops breaking up and just REVS for days and doesn't complain back.

Really stout motors.

Sooooooooo......

Did you get it off the island yet?

That car will fit in great with all the other Japanese awesomeness you have going on.

Update:

Not in my possession yet. The ferries weren't running yesterday due to the weather, and I was stuck in an arc flash training class at work all day today. I hope to maybe get it this weekend.

Reservations made for tomorrow at noon. Heading out early to grab a 9am boat over, pay for the car, put the plates on, and drive onto the ferry. Supposed to be some snow flying, so wish me luck. I know it has new tires, but unsure if they are a summer only, or all season. This will make two vehicles that I have purchased that required a ferry ride. Well technically the car I bought on Long Island didn't require a ferry ride, but I used one anyway.

We had the SR5 version, back in the day. Put on 125k miles with nary a problem. Absolutely loved it. I'd swap that T series engine in, in a NY second!

Just got home with the car. It's a little rougher around the edges than I remember, but overall still really nice. Ran into a problem, and had to get towed home. Drove the 1/8th mile to the ferry, but then the clutch hydraulics let go on the boat, and had to be pushed off the ferry. Called AAA, and was on the flat bed the rest of the way home. Probably could have limped it home by starting it in gear and shifting without the clutch, but there is a lot of stops between there and home, so didn't feel like it. Also the seller put MR2 seats in the car, and they sit way to high off the floor so my head was against the ceiling. Not fun!!! Anyone know of a place I may be able to find the proper seats? Anyone interested in MR2 seats?

Chris

Glad you got the car home without any major problems. I’m looking forward to a build thread on this.

What do the MR2 seats look like? They might work for my 280Z.

And if they don't work for the Z, I'll make them fit the CSX or my Trans Am.

I've got a pair of stock seats from my Corolla... you anywhere near Portland?

You could also check out www.picknpull.com and look for 75-79 Corollas for appropriate seats

Failing clutch hydraulics is no big deal... likely culprit is slave cylinder
