Ok, I have projects that are.....slowing getting knocked down.  Maybe I can get back to the CNC shortly.   Back Story, I drove halfway across the country and grabbed a CNC from California offered off the Forum.  In the move, the battery backup came undone.  Being that it seems like this one requires to have the battery to keep the coding, I would have to rewrite it and install onto the PLC.

This, is where my question comes in.  New controllers can be cheap, and running a LinuxCNC on it would be more forgiving on which program source you were pulling from.   Most of these have a 4 wire output for the axis.  The motors on the machine are the 8 wire steppers.  GRM Being the hive of all info:

How would you go about keeping the current 8 wire steppers and have them appropriately communicate with the 4 wire out board?

Are the motors for sure steppers and not servos?

honestly, thats a good question.  Been looking at wiring and all that online, which made me say stepper.  I would bet it is a servo setup.

I need to pull info off the motors themselves.  Also, in the midst of a water leak, I need to remove a lot of drywall inthe garage this week too.

You might want to look at the manufacturers web site to see if the OS could be downloaded.

You'll need to log in to post.
