Alright so my father in law tells me he's looking into an'83 928 for $2700. He calls the guy and says it was his grandfathers car and he bought a Cadilliac and just parked it. His grandfather passed away and the car had just sat since 2002. With some starter fluid and a battery charger the car ran, our family from Germany had a friend with them that is a Master Technician for Mercedes Benz in Frankfurt. Diagnosis a stuck fuel pump. A new one will be here early this week and so we will be able to see how well the engine runs. Also we will replace the maintence parts like: Timing Belt, H20 Pump, Plugs Wires, and the rest for a good tuneup, as we already emptied the fuel out and cleaned out the tank. I'll keep the topic updated as I'm enrolled in a tech school for Collision Repair and Refinishing so naturally the car will be resprayed and the Father in Law is wanting the German Flag on the car somewhere as they and my Wife are German. I wonder how my Stg II Corrado G60 would fare against this in a 1/8 mile? According to what I've read it would be a drivers race? Any Input on that? Dr. Side Porsche 928 V-8 Photobucket Photobucket

Nice find.

What's the difference between a normal 928 and a 928S?

Looks to have a Borla exhaust...or at least the tips.

I haven't heard it run personally yet, but my father in law had it started several times while I was at work, When the fuel pump gets here, I'll do a recording of it running and post it.

I was thinking that, too.

I dunno--it looks like it could either be a windfall or it could eventually drive you insane.

Seems like a cheap chance to take. These were very expensive, very complex, very rare cars. Getting a clapped out example is not for the faint-hearted.

The Coors can is a nice touch...& I hope the 928s stays cheap for you.

Here are some 928 links I have on my computer:

928s Forever

Info from that page for your car: 1983 - 1984 928 S 4.7 liter 16-valve engine. Finally a true S model hits our shores, albeit detuned from Euro specs. Slight increase in displacement brings similiar performance boost to 234HP, although the press and consumers go wild venting years of pent-up frustration. The new four-speed automatic becomes standard equipment and the five-speed manual optional. Other standard equipment includes leather seats, power windows, automatic climate control, heated electric mirrors and a handling package. At 146mph top speed, Porsche boldly claims the 928 S to be "the fastest street legal production car sold in the US. 1984 base price $44,000.00.

Is it a stick shift by any chance?

I'm guessing not, since those are so rare.

Also, you should re-trim the interior to look like this one: Radical

Dan, you sure do like some expensive, labor intensive, and questionably reliable cars.

I've always like those. Gorgeous rides.

Nice find. German flags? How about something subtle?

These cars have been known to be expensive to repair. However if maintained well, they are fun to drive if a bit of a pig in terms of weight.

Good luck with it and nice find.

That "Pig" label was given when the average Accord weighed less than 2500lbs. Now that a Civic is pushing 3000lbs a 928 probably feels downright dainty.

A 928 will often feel sluggish down low due to really tall gearing. At least you have a manual so you get 5 speeds and the 2.75 rear gear instead of the autos 3 speeds and 2.25.
Have fun with it, Ive always wanted one with a big cube LSx motor.

LOL Unique. R24 135 we're looking into a set of Euro Cams for it later on. We're gonna get it running and then get the exterior nice then the interior last. Also we're getting a set of phone dials and a set of what I'm guessing is a set of 944 turbo or S wheels this week. I'll post pics when we get em.

Gotta love the 928, epic car, but also very complex, but luckily there some great resources online to help, one site not above is http://www.rennlist.com, great 928 specific forum area there and allot of knowledge to tap into... I wish i didnt have to sell mine a few years back, i had a blast taking it from $500.00swamp car to "ooohhh..." sold before finished, need the $$$... oh well.. anyhow, if your going to change cams, i'd recommend doing it concurrently with the front engine service, as both are a pita.. might as well limit the pain to one experience :)

you can fit just about any Porsche 5 bolt wheel, including Boxter wheels which i think look great on a 928, though spacers may be needed (its been awhile, memory failure) best of luck, looking forward to reading about this one...

and if those trash can wheels are 7" and 8" wide, i might be tempted if the price were reasonable enough ;)

keep an eye on timing belts and tensioner - it is an interference engine. Do the H2O pump at same time. It is hard to make power over the stock engine.

A 944 is 1/2 a 928 engine.
