So I'm building a 1985 RX-7 track rat and I'm trying to figure out what is a good performance ride height for it.

I have a Ground Control Coilover setup in front and eibach springs in the back I can cut (several dead coils). I don't have a trilink or panhard set up.

The car has not been lowered so it's pretty much at a stock height now.

the question is: what is a good ride height that lowers the car while still maintaining good suspension movement? AND where do I measure ride height from?

any help from PRO7, ITA7 or track gurus appreciated.

ps. car will be used in fairly fast tracks (Infenion raceway, Laguna Seca, Thunderhill)

thx.

I'd like to know this too, I'm really tempted to lower mine down to this height because of how awesome it looks with 15x7 +7 wheels:

But I'd hate to do it if it sends my roll centers below ground.

I do not remember the exact figures but Ground Control gave me some specs. Curiously, their figures were not from the pavement but rather from the top center of the fender lip to the edge of a 13" rim. The final setup would up with the car raked abut 1/2" higher in the front. It worked quite well.

The front suspension needed a heap of caster (like 4.5 deg positive) and camber (like 3.0 deg negative), 1/8" toe out and that was a start point. You finished that up with pyrometer measurements.

unevolved's car doesn't look that much lower than my friend's NASA '85 GSL-SE

Thanks man, now I gotta clean the drool off my keyboard. Any more info on that '85? Build thread perhaps?

Lowering the car in the usual manner reduces supension travel, especially in bump. It will also change the roll centers , often to a detriment in handling.

That said, you must add spacers under the front struts if you lower the front much to counter the roll center effect.

Steering improvements are a matter of maintenance and adjustment, up to a point then you need to go back to Respeed for their rack conversion.

Good shocks are a matter of custom build, Koni reds are old stock and Illuminas are not race quality.

Are you restricted by class rules, because the rear end is best with a custom 4 link, panhard and coil overs but they are rarely legal in many stock classes.

There is another RX7 1st gen guru out of Findlay Ohio, but his name escapes me right now.

That's not my car, although mine is that same color and with those same wheels.

OTOMH It's raced in NASA TTS-ST2. Motec 13B with some Renesis parts. 218hp at the rear wheels. That's with the 9000rpm rev limit but I know it's making more power now with a different intake and a 10,000rpm rev limit.

1998lbs empty weight 2193lbs Comp weight w/driver

Fastest lap at Willow is something like 1:28 flat

I'll get more updated info for you guys.
