Starting to merge the engine and body harness on my E30 motor swap today and ran into an issue that is confusing me. I was using a multimeter to monitor things, nothing was connected I just tested wiring leads.

Pin 18 on the C101 connector, the black/yellow start wire, has power running through it when the key is in the run position. I thought it should only be hot when in the start position. This is an 87 car, so the unloaded relays should be running on this wire too but that shouldn't make it hot in the run position.

Any thoughts? Thanks

I thought that pin is for the ABS, but on non-ABS cars it is a ground. So depending on what motor you're swapping in, you need to verify if the chassis side and engine side are both for ABS or not. Otherwise when you crank the car you'll fry things because the ABS signal on the engine side will ground out on the chassis side.

But it's been a year or so since I did my swap, so I may be thinking of a different wire. If so, disregard...

I'm going by this pinout description.

I was just thrown off by there being power with the key in the run position.
