Which is the better buy and easier to junkyard boost?
From my other post it's obvious the escort is easy and cheap to boost but what about the Integra w/ B series?
Both have a little bit of rust and both have about the same mileage. Any other advantages/disadvantages?
Thanks
Dan
The Integra has the stronger aftermarket combined with the ability to swap parts easily between other Integras would make the Integra the choice for me but it depends on how much each one cost. And the B-series is very easy to boost.
Integra, is easier to build and boost, better part availability as well. Though the 90 integra isn't the most sought after year, it does have potential.
The escort would be fine, if you dropped in an escort GT turbo motor though, someone on here seems to think they are bullet proof...

The Escort GT had a turbo model?

No. BUT: The motor that came in the Escort GT is pretty much identical to the motor that came in the later 323 GTX that we didn't get here. You can buy a drop out for that car for about $1500 shipped. But it's not bulletproof. Rods start to get a little hairy between 250-300whp. Still plenty to motivate an Escort. If you want bulletproof, you have to step up to a Familiar GTR BPT, or just build your own block.
That said, easily duplicated starting with an n/a BP.
That Integra has a B18A. Not my favorite, but it'll work.
My gut is honestly going to go with the Escort. It won't be as fast, but it'll be cheaper to do at least halfway right.
Integra will handle better to start, though. It's a toss-up, i just like the cheapness and ambush potential of a Turbo Escort Wagon.
I still stand by the Integra due to the fact that better brakes and suspension pieces are just a junkyard away.
Sorry guys. Forgot to post up price. Escort wagon is $600 and Integra is $900. I've had a bunch of hondas and 1 Escort GT. I do like the parts available for the integra and don't mind the B18 .I'm not all that familiar with the escorts although I loved the engine and tranny in my gt I had.
How much money are looking to put into it?

Ditto on the Escort, actually. MX3, EGT, ZX2 S/R stuff fits on it.

What kind of performance/power are you looking for?
I didn't know that. I would say it would depend on how much money you are planning to put into and what you are planning to do with. If you think you might want to tune it up a lot, I would go with the Integra because of the huge number of aftermarket parts available for it.

I guess it depends where you live, but my local junkyard has probably 30-40 Escorts and absolutely 0 Honda products. The engine/gearbox in the wagon is nothing like the Mazda pieces in your former GT.
Are they both in running condition? I'd recommend you drive them both back to back and see which you like better. Or if you like the Integra a whole $300 better.
The plug and play capability of Hondas is appealing though.

Yeah, what he said. There's literally 15-20 EGTs ALONE within easy driving distance of me in junkyards. I could probably restore my Escort to minty-fresh status doing nothing but junkyard diving over the next couple months.
If i was going for cheap boosts, junkyard cheap build, the Escort would be my choice by far. If i was going for something that would be cooler to a wider audience, maybe worth something to sell later, or to go REALLY fast, the Integra is the right choice. Not a ton of junkyard schill for that car though. At least in my area. DA Integras do turn up in my area, but i can count on one hand the number i've seen in the last year, and it usually takes all of 2 days for them to be stripped to bare shell with nothing useful on them.
Same for pretty much all 4-cylinder Hondas, save for Accords.
That said... if you want to get real creative with the Integra, there's more stuff you could use from Accords than you would think. Hint: F23s are deceptively strong motors, HUGE improvement over a stock B18A in every way.
I'll be honest I know theres a decent amount of junkyards but not many pick and pulls. I'd want get about 180ish hp out of either car. Not looking to put too much money into the car. Suspension,wheels/tires,turbo. I like to use used parts. Not really looking to dump money into cars like I did when I was younger. At least not till I get a lot older.

How hard is it to put an F23 where a B18 was?
I've owned a '93 Integra (same as a '90....or very close) and driven various Escort/Lynx(es?).
From the get-go, the Integra has MUCH better brakes and suspension and it already has a tach as part of the instrument cluster (tho I guess adding one to an Escort wagon that may not have one isn't all that difficult). Aftermarket part support HAS to be better for the Integra, if for no other reason than it's part of the Honda "family".
Box stock, the Integra engine produces about 140 HP, the Escort? about 100+ or -. With 200K+ miles on it, my Integra was still alot better put together than any Escort with HALF the miles on it.
Don't get me wrong, just yesterday I saw a late '80s Escort GT at work and was tempted to track down the owner. But the first/last time I sat behind the wheel of a similar Escort....I just fit/it was VERY tight.
The Escort will seem like a truck next to the Integra....and some folks like that feeling.

Yes.
There was an Escort GT Turbo. It was produced with its chassis-mate, the EXP Turbo, from 1983-1985 (or right around that time). Powered by the 1.6 CVH Turbo, it still wasn't exactly fast.
That is NOT, however, related to the car in question.

Vote definitely for Escort, then. 180whp will set you back $500 at most if you're smart.

Matter of mounting and wiring. Both have already been done for you, just a matter of reading up on the Honduh boards.

Touche, forgot about that one, but you're right, it's not relevant.
I think the better question is do you want to drive this right away or work on a engine swap and have another project?
If you need a car to get around, Integra.
If you want fun and unique, Escort.

180bhp should only set back $500 if you are smart with Integra as well. Junkyard turbo FTW

I think it may have gotten confusing earlier with the talk of the GT Turbo/swap/whatever.
The Escort won't need a motor swap to hit the power goals. Neither car will require it, actually.

Agreed.
I'm trying to find the thread where it was laid out just how easy and cheap it was to boost the Escort 1.9. Might be fruitless, though. FEOA search function blows. $500 was a high number... i don't think this guy even hit $300, and it was all with easy to find stuff. The torque he's making is insane, too, which is going to be the big difference between the B18 and the 1.9SPI.
Four door integras can do very evil things.
I always think of this one. I have wanted to build one for a while.
