This guy sounds like he belongs here with us. It will be interesting to see if he can verify if it's the original engine in the car. I recall a recent thread talking about the extreme of these engines.
Matt is a good guy--- and a genuine car nut. I've met him at a few press launches, and we always have a good time. He's pretty solid behind the wheel as well. At the BFG Comp 2 Sport launch they ran all 40 of us journalists through a wet autocross in a VW GTI. Matt was fastest, and a good sport about it.
He's also part of a new TV show I ran into called "Drive" on NBC Sports. The episode I saw was really entertaining..... very much in the vein of the U.K. Top Gear---- I really liked it!

Is that true about the f.a.a. rating?
Oh and http://springfieldil.craigslist.org/cto/4782614595.html nmna.
I've got 800K to go on two of them then. Better get driving.
He does a weekly podcast, it's on the site. I enjoy it. He certainly seems to be one of us (restored Delorean, foxbody racecar), but he can be pretty polarizing.
Tell him that the dealer can punch the VIN in their system and come up with the engine number that came with the car.
I wonder if the digital odometer knows what to do at 1,000,000 miles. Does it return to zero, or just quit working? Maybe an easter egg, "80085?"
In reply to JamesMcD:
My girlfriend had an Old Cutlass Supreme from the early 90s years ago. When it rolled over from 199,999 miles the digital dash just read 'error'. Couldn't program in a digital '2' GM? That's some confidence in your product, right there.
I could totally see a 1UZ hitting a million miles if it had frequent oil changes and maintenance.
My eagle premier odo stopped reading anything after 100000. 900,000 on anything without major work is pretty impressive.
There's a guy who rolled an 8th Civic over 1 million KM and I believe it just rolled over to zero. He should have hit 1 million miles by now, but stopped posting.

I enjoy Matt Farah's videos. He seems very genuine and doesnt seem to put on much of a face/mask other than what you have to do to have a decent video that isnt full of rambling and the truly stupid sentences we all utter in casual speech.
In reply to bigev007:
his polarizing nature is part of what I enjoy about him, he seems to at times like or dislike something for seemingly little to no reason, which means it's taste and personal preference. Human insight gives fantastic representation to the dynamics of a vehicle.
1uzs sound great at 9000rpm, I bet they don't go 1000000 miles when you run em that hard though

Agreed. I got caught up in a lot of the canyon roads testing vids...very easy going guy. Chris Harris seems pretty cool as well.

Piker. Irv Gordon has surpassed the 3 million mile mark in his '66 Volvo P1800.
This guy has a lot of catching up to do.

Sure, but how do you explain the REST of the car surviving? It is a Lexus after all...

OTOH, I just saw a 4.6-powered Lexus mosterbarge with 30k on the clock and a rod knock, so...
Truck also had active sway bars. Can't wait to have to deal with those when things fail. 2012 model year and the hydraulic lines were already rusted all to hell.
In reply to Joe Gearin:
Most of the drive on NBC sports content is /drive YouTube content reedited with an intro and commentary added for TV.
It'll be interesting to see who fills Harris' shoes for the next run of episodes.
Oh and all the episodes are put up to the /drive youtube channel after they air on TV.
In reply to moparman76_69:
nope they are put on /drive+ which is a subscription channel and cost $7 a month.

It's a Lexus made in the 90s. Big difference. Those things were absolutely ridiculously overbuilt in every sense of the word.

In reply to Swank Force One: Sad to say, you're correct concerning a lot of makes & models. And I'm not just talking about rides here. The product we're discussing could also be a dishwasher, toaster, etc. Regardless of what the product line is, the result seems to be the same.
Many companies overbuild their product at the onset. They try to make sure it's good and dependable right out of the box. However once the product has established a good name, they spend years cheapening it down and often, making it porkier. Finally they generally end up with a product that has nothing in common with the highly thought of original, but the name.
What is the most common response to this process? They start over again with another slightly different named product and repeat the cycle.
So, ya'll are saying my 98 and 99 LS400's are keepers, then?
