I'm looking for some new, larger Torsion bars for my 944. I found a set on a site called cip1.ca. They list a set of VW 28mm 26 9/16 long Torsion bars for 1/2 the cost of a set of torsion bars with the same part number specified for the 944. Think they're the same? A torsion bar of the same size should be the same spring rate, right?
The ones listed are an upgrade for a VW dune buggy. I can't imagine they are any different, the 944 is half VW anyway?
On sway-a-way's website, the VW and the 944 have the exact same part number for 28mm Torsion bars. This should all add up to me saving 150$, but only if they work.
Thoughts?
I would say same part number = same part.
I would agree, except I'm not 100% sure the brand this particular website is selling is actually made by sway-a-way.
I guess what I'm really asking is: a 28mm Torsion bar is a 28mm torsion bar right? There shouldn't be differences for different cars?
That sounds dumb...
I have those same bars on my 924 (with 944 aluminum arms). Dropped right in and seem to be working fine. Need more shock to properly control them as the KYB's I have are a little soft/shot for them.
Another local friend of mine used the same bars on his 924 Turbo and they've worked fine for him and he's done several track days and driven to/from Monterrey (and through the cork screw, heh) and he's very happy with the handling improvement they have made on his car.
They seem to work well here :) :
