Hey guys,
My brother in law is battling his daughters 99 Saturn sl1 which has no spark. It was running just fine, but then the battery was dead and she had someone jump start it. When whoever did this they hooked the cables up wrong and now it has no spark. Any ideas. I'm thinking something electrical is blown.
He has replaced the coils and crank position sensor, but it hasn't fixed it. I don't know a lot about the car unfortunately. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Chris
If all the fuses looked good, id be tempted to swap in a used ecm. The upullit yards here sell them super cheap. It has injector pulse? Let us know how it turns out. Im sure i'll do this someday too.
Not sure on the injector pulse. How do you check it? Do you have to make sure that the ecm is from the same year and same equipment?
Thanks,
Chris
Ive put the "wrong" ecu in before with no trouble, idk. Try to come as close as you can to the right year & stay with a single cam car. Id be more inclined to try 98 than a 00, since 2000 was a mild redesign.
You can check for injector pulse with a noid light or maybe listen with a stethescope.
Bump for more opinions. I passed along your idea belteshazzar.
they don't have one. they generate a cam signal off the ignition coil.
My BIL called me today to tell me he found a fuse marked PCMB that was blown. It is a 10 amp fuse, and after replacing it the car started with a jump box due to the dead battery. I guess that fuse opened when the jumper cables were installed incorrectly. Not sure what PCMB stands for, but my guess is that it's the computer for the car.
PCM stands for "Powertrain Control Module" (another name for ECU). Not sure what the B stands for. Anywho, glad to hear it was a small and cheap part that needed replacing only.
