Just cleared a "tidy sum" selling my house and buying another/smaller house and am looking at a second/not quite a project car. I don't fit into a 1st or 2nd generation Miata but did find a decent looking Saab convertible with a manual transmission. What do I need to look for on a test drive and is this car too much of an "oddball" for my regular mechanic to fix....if need be?
BTW, I also found a vintage Saab sedan on Craigslist, apparently in the same area that I just moved to. Ad says it is a mid 60s (IIRC) sedan with 4 speed manual transmission shifted in the column.
Sounds like your mystery Saab is a Saab 96.
I like Saabs. I also like that used ones are cheap. I fear the scarcity of repair parts, should I need to procure them. Are my fears largely unfounded?
'Verts have a whole slew of 'vert top related issues, plus the interiors tend to get ratty more so than do sedan interiors. If you're not doing the work yourself, an orphaned make that was never that common may be a tough car to get serviced/repaired by a reputable local shop.
If i was gonna go vintage saab i would do a Sonnet, theres one driving in the neighborhood that i would love to have

That gen of Saab vert was really really flexible like a wet cardboard box. Also prone to engine sludge. No go for me, the 2004 up were much better and will still be cheap. An Aero is what to get.
