I am one A/C hose repair away from shoving the new engine into the wagon. I am starting to get nervous about driving 1800 miles on a junkyard engine a week after installation.

I was supposed to drive Infiniti Q45 #1 back home but it developed more than a tick/less than a knock in the drags.
I sold it to another competitor for $750 and came home via an $89 one way Hertz rental car.
The following year, I drove the Challenge car (Infiniti #2) successfully both ways. This year I am also driving both ways.
Here's my contingency plan. Small failure: repair and drive back. This could mean staying in Gainesville another day.
If I have catastrophic failure.
Use AAA to have the car towed to a local GRMer.
Get a Hertz rental. The hotel has a free shuttle that will drive you to the airport where you pick up rental.
Via Uship, you get your car towed back for about 50 cents per mile. In your case, about 900 miles or $450 in towing. Your car will be back to your house about a week later.
Find me if you have trouble in Gainesville. I've been there.
$500 or $600 on a credit card will fix your immediate problems.

Had an engine issue a week before and a rear end failure days before Drag Week. We went and had a life time of awesome memories. Trust your skills and know the GRM Community is a phone call away. Where are you based out of?

Thank you. I am in southern Indiana, coming down 65 to Nashville, 24 to Chattanooga, and 75 straight down. Leaving Thursday before dawn, or Wednesday after work + parking lot camping in the wagon. Also picking up a friend in Atlanta.

I got you covered for the last leg of your trip.
From ATL to Gainesville, I am within striking distance. Trailer, winch, shop full of tools, lift, and a willing attitude.
You will see the "On-the-road-assist" thread soon. But Wheels said it well. Trust your skills, and we are just a phone call away.

"Underpowered" like my little datsun is "underpowered"?
I technically have a windshield so the car as is can pass tech now. Figure I'm 4 days ahead of where we were last year.

It's just a little 4 cylinder, adjacent to another one. With the merest hint of NO2
