In honor of there currently being two Saab threads on the first page of this forum, I'm posting a link to the first Saab ad to come out in decades that doesn't totally suck. Be forewarned, though: You will have to endure footage of old 96 rally cars getting after it; you'll have to watch a couple 99s, too. You will have to face the fact that Saabs came from PROP PLANES, NOT JETS. And you will have to stifle a snicker when you realize that there is only the TINIEST inclusion of GM-era Saabs. If you are a fan of the marque prior to GM's acquisition, then you will not secretly gloat.

glad to see they are convienently "forgettting" the GM era
Wow the first three topics on this part of the board are about Saabs. Does that mean the board is about to break down? Runs and hides
No but seriously I love me some old Saab.

They might be skipping over the GM part of it... Except for the fact that the car IS a GM SAAB.

Yep, deeply ironic. But the ad gives me hope that the company will again embrace its creative, technology-driven roots and make interesting, safe, practical, fun cars again...

Honestly, that is exactly why we bought our 2002 9-5. It fits all of those requirements.
And on a sidenote, I think that the new 9-5 is one of the best looking sedans to come out in quite a while.

Agreed. It looks fantastic.
Any idea when we'll see the first 'Spyker' Saab?

A "saab" story would follow for thousands of GRM'ers if that ever happened
Long ago I worked for the data division of Saab (called Datasaab, go figure) for a few years.
As an organization, they had a culture of finding ways to apply defense technology to business and industry (swords to plowshares?)
The D5 systems I worked on were ex-military repurposed to run financial systems for banks and other financial institutions. All the manuals and documents were Swedish.
I started out speaking no Swedish, but quickly learned that 'Lifsfarlig Spanning' mean 'Lethal High Voltage'. Met lots of interesting characters from the mother country.

I was very close to getting an '02 9-5, and I agree on the looks of the new 9-5. Best Epsilon car, yet, IMO.
