Glad you are enjoying your new car though! How is David Maus to deal with?
No complaints about the Maus house. I gave them my best and final offer up front and they agreed to it.
Glad to hear you like it! Sad to hear you went through David Maus (now Warren Buffett's). Worst employer I've ever been employed by. That's a story for another day. Plan on taking it to any local autoxes? Like MSCC or SCCA out in Geneva?
With white plugs installed, there's almost no evidence that there was ever an ugly plate there.
Yes, I've already autocrossed it once at Valkaria Airport (video) and I'll be at Orange County Convention Center on April 3rd.
Guy down the street from me just got one of these and cornered me about taking it autocrossing. I encouraged him to join in the madness but did warn him that it can be addicting. Looking forward to dragging him and his son with a turbo RX7 to the next event.
Welcome to the FiST. I will be interested to hear your thoughts about autocrossing with ESP on, in Sport Mode or completely OFF. Most people I speak with love the fact that you can turn it all off, but on a tight course with that much power to the front wheels having something to limit wheelspin (but not cut power) is not such a bad thing.
Sure, it uses the brakes, but on a 60 second course you are not going to cook the brakes anyway. On some layouts, I can do better in sport mode than ESC OFF.
The OEM tires are a 140 treadwear IIRC, but apparently legal because they are stock. Mine wore out after 5000 miles, with one damaged pretty badly at the sidewall, so they are not very tough. Replacements have made me MUCH happier on the road and on course.
Because it had 14,000 miles on it, the tires were replaced before I bought it with Michelin Pilot Super Sports, which have a 300 treadwear rating. They're also one size larger than stock at 215/45-17 (coincidentally the same size as my Sentra) which throws the speedometer off quite a bit. Indicated 75 is actually 78 on the GPS.
