I'm a huge fan of Tire Rack (their South Bend warehouse is 1-day shipping from me) but I've come across a few tire sizes I need that they don't have or only have in a winter/snow tire. Does anyone use any other online vendor for tire purchases with good luck?
I've been looking at http://www.simpletire.com and http://www.tires-easy.com but don't have any experience with them.
FYI the tires I'm looking for are 165 45r15 and possibly a 175 65r15 or 175 70r15.
I've had good experiences with Tires-Easy in the past whenever I've needed to buy a tire Tire Rack doesn't carry. Once in a blue moon they will have a better price too on something they both stock. Shipping wasn't as fast as the Rack but what can ya do.
I've bought a couple of sets from Amazon. You might try them.

165/40 15? Is that even a size? The 175 makes no sense to me either. Its impossible to even find a 185/70 15 these days, and that was a pretty common size in the seventies.

Maybe look for 195/65-15 instead
I have used tires easy and simple tire. Both experiences were fine. Love the options.

The 165/45/15 is a common front tire for lowered air cooled bugs and busses. I ran them on the front of the fiat for a while.
When I got mine it was only available as a federal Formoza fd-1 which I bought through tireseasy.
I used Vulcan Tire back in the early 2000's and never had an issue with them. Their website is still from the early 2000's.
I bought several sets of tires from Tread Depot. Looks like you may need to wait as they get there new domain up and running.

Generally my go-tos are Tirerack, Discount Tire Direct and Tires-Easy (good source for Nokians). I sometimes look at 1010tires when I'm searching around, but I've never bought from them, so no info there.

Common? 165 15 was typical on all sorts of Euro in the 60's, or in American sizing, 165/80 15. I'm not saying they don't exist, but I have never encountered one.

Tirerack showed one 165/50 15. Or was it a 60 series? Still never heard of that size...
Well, I just gave simpletire.com a try, plus a local installer right around the corner. Tire Rack didn't have any Conti DWS in 235/40R19 and said it could be months until they get them.

Got the tires delivered to the installer on the day Simpletire said they would originally be delivered (today) despite telling me (twice today) that they wouldn't arrive until tomorrow.
Only problem was that their "Associated Local Installer" has never heard of Simpletire and was confused as to why the tires showed up on his doorstep. And slightly pissed off since he had specifically told me not to have them delivered to his shop when I talked to him earlier. Since Simpletire had listed him as an Associated Local Installer, I had kinda sorta figured that they were, you know, associated.
I prepaid for installation (at a substantial discount) through Simpletire, which he wouldn't honor. So I had to pay retail for mount and balance, and now I have to try to get my installation fee refunded from ST. Actually, I feel they should refund the difference between their promised price and the actual price, but I'll settle for just getting what I paid ST back.
So, Simpletire got me hard-to-get tires when I needed them for a decent price, but the experience did not fill me with confidence in them.
I just got some delivered from Amazon yesterday. They were trailer tires, but I've seen a wide selection.
I sometimes use TireRack and Discount Tire Direct to shop and read reviews, then if neither one has them in stock I hit up Amazon.
I've used simpletire and Walmart.com for some smoking deals in the last year or two. All good from my perspective - fast shipping with no ancient aged tires. Watch out for"new" on eBay/Amazon as many are way out on date code.
My go to is tirebuyer.com It is the web-presence of American Tire Distributors (ATD) which are the guys that deliver tires to many, many shops, including Walmart.

Also don't miss their 10% discount for Military, First Responders, and Teachers. I have found that the phone sales people have some pricing leeway also.
I remember seeing on their site in the past that if you ordered before 10:30am they could get the tires to their associated shop the same day.
