paralysis.

Too many projects. In which sequence would you guys do the following: (order of the list will be by age, not personal desire)

1982 Camaro- Owned from new, autocross, hillclimb, drag, daily driver...But it needs some loving. Headliner, freshen engine, perhaps update to LSx, perhaps install 5 speed in place of 700R4, brake update or rebuild, find 17" wheels so i can get decent tires.

1972 510- has L20 with Webers, 5 speed, R200 diff, but hasn't been driven for 20 years, so it needs everything that has to do with fluids, plus when i fired it, it spit some rockers, so I presume the guides are dry, so it should come apart. Probably 40-50 hours of sheet metal work to get it sturdy, and I'm watching for a 280ZX to update brakes and struts.

1967 Camaro- I've always had a chubby for a first gen F car, and I picked this one out of a scrapyard- it was crashed in the 80's, so its not really rusty, and the damage is easily fixed nowadays with reproduction parts. I'm thinking of trying to induce heart failure amongst the purists by putting 69 sheetmetal on it, but leaving the vent windows and 67 interior. This one I envision as a street driveable, uncompetitive GT1 car- picture a bunch of Late Model parts attatched to a caged tub. LSx 6 speed here, too.

1956 Chev 210 2 door sedan- I've owned this since 1976, and it is a complete project- like its a solid shell...

1954 Dodge Coronet 2 door wagon- has an EFI 5.2 and automatic sitting in the Dakota clip that is welded, but not steerable or brakeable yet. This one needs some floorpan work, a fuel tank built, rewiring, steering column, brakes and that would have it to Rat status. ( I should do this, since its half done and I have no great sentiomental attatchment)

1948 Chev Fleetline Aerosedan Another shell with frame- needs everything.

Any suggestions as to sequence? Anybody want anything on the list to make my life simpler? Anybody want to pay me to finish one so they can buy it? Anybody got an LS1 and 6 speed for the 82?

  • Scrap the '82 for whatever you can fetch for it.
  • If the 510 is a 2 door, convert to vintage racing. If it is a 4 door, unload it.
  • An un-rusty '67 that can "easily be repaired" is the hotness. Do eeeet!
  • The rest make me sleepy.

Get a crazy over the top one, like a Locost, then you feel better about dumping the rest of your unfinished and semi-pointless projects.

It's working for me!

Keep the 510 and 67 camaro - ditch the rest. Use to fund the two.

I'm not a purist - or really a camaro fan - just think the 67-68 body lines look cleaner than 69.

Thin the herd first.
I'd let the 510 go first because it should be easy to find a buyer.
Then send the 48 Chevy off. If you can get the 54 Coronet to a running rat stage cheaply, attack that and then dump it. Now you're down to 3 and that's reasonable. Fix the small stuff on the 82 camaro first and decide if it still makes your heart all fluttery. At least get it to the driving point. Driveable cars are better than non-driveable cars. Next I'd dig into the 67 Camaro because awesome. Do whatever you want. A guy at the last autocross was running a convertable 67 that was all properly car show shiny and original. It was straight up awesome. If you still have energy and haven't died of old age, then dive into the 56. Cool cars, but a lot of work to put one back together properly.

Yea I'd remove any worthwhile parts from the 82 Camaro that'd fit the earlier 67', let that be someone elses project.

I'd ditch everything but the 67 Camaro and keep the 210 or the 510, whichever means more to you.

First things first. How much free time do you actually have? If it's minimal, perhaps it's time to shed some of the projects. I have so little free time I'm still trying to get my '91 Tracker I bought in October running.

Sure sounds like the 67 Camaro is closest. I'd do that if you have a passion for them. Myself I'd probably trim down some projects - lose the ones that have the least interest to you. I tend to find projects I love get done, projects I like don't.

Put them all up for sale for a price tha will no make you sad if someone actually buys it. Beat that horse for a few months and see what is still around.

If nothig sells, thn you may decide that some or all are not worth investing in as there will never be any $$$ recovery.

If some stuff sells, then you will have a clear consience cause yougotwhat you wanted to feel good about the sale AND you hav $$$ to spend on the other projects.

If it ALL sells, then you have a unique opportunity to get a normal life back: You can either bail from the hoby with your new lucre or you can buy something that actually runs.

What about that mustang shell you have tucked away at the back of your shop?

I dunno what exactly I'd do in your situation but I'd probably pick one from the list that would be easiest to complete to build some momentum and then reassess from there.

Just don't be like my uncle.

Mustang is a customers, and its almost done Rolf. Painted and everything. And I'm probably more like Jurgen than you might believe...other than the tinfoil hat stuff.

I agree with you guys, but the problem with the 82 is sentimental- I bought it new, and in the second week of August, I will have owned it for 30 years....

You can't do that. You're the 82s only owner. Why don't you just shoot your dog?

I'd definitely keep the 82, on the "devil you know" principle. I also have always had a soft spot for whatever will induce heart failure in purists, so the Synthesis 67/69 idea sounds good.

Keep the '82. make a nice driver out of it.

Restomod the '67. I'd skip the 69 sheetmetal just because I like the 67 better.

backburner the 1956, sell the others once they are (somewhat) drivable for (hopefully) profit.

I see no scrap on this list.

I would say keep the 2 camaros and the 56 chevy and fix them nicely, get the wagon driveable and try to sell it, and sell the others without putting anymore money into them. For sure the 510, they are worth tons of money for not being very exciting.

You just had to be 2200 miles away. I'd be making an offer on the Fleetline if you were closer.

Keep the 82 for the sentiment, and the Fleetline because it will be AWESOME. That car is sex on wheels.

I'm guessing you are either a) not married, or b) your wife is an angel....

6 cars... and not a one is daily-able? Talk about A.D.D.

I'd say (since I prefer to go carving up roads, as opposed to blasting down straights) 1) Keep and do up the 510... it is the best handling, nimblest of the lot

2) the 82 Camaro... ONLY because you are sentimentally attached

Sell the rest to fund the 1st two...

here is why.... you said it.... The Fleetline - "needs EVERYTHING". The 56 Chevy 210 is a "complete project". The 56 Coronet, finish to ratrod and sell. That just leaves the 67 Camaro.

In MY world... its a no brainer, keep the 67, and sell the 82... but original owner and sentiment says for you to do the opposite......
