I love watching V8 Utes. Always entertaining. Probably because they don't have a lot of weight over the rear-end, combined with a powerful engine, equals limited traction.
WOW. I haven't been this stoked about a touring series since I discovered BTCC in the mid '90s.
Remind me again why utes aren't hellishly popular here, in this, the land of rabid truck enthusiasts?

While I agree "aussie v8 anything is awesome", Ford's DOHC I6 4.0 litre (Twin?) Turbo is pretty kick ass. Power: 310 kW (416 hp) @ 5250 rpm; Torque: 565 N·m (417 lb·ft) @ 1950-5200 rpm

Looks like it's basically V8 Supercars with less weight on the rear wheels. Yes? YES!
I think they should each have to carry a couple of sheep in the back, or some roofing supplies.
Eh, just makes me think of the Craftsman truck series. Don't get me wrong, it's Aussie V8 Supercars, which makes it 10 billion times better than Nascar, but it still just seems like their version of Craftsamn Trucks.
And I thought a big part of the popularity of Utes down under had to do with them not having "real" pickups? Can one of you down-under types give me the direct scoop?
From what I saw last summer, they have real pickups. Not giant duallies with 1000 ft-lb Cummins diesels, but smaller ones with some pretty cool beds with fold-down sides.
I'll probably see more trailers on my drive home tonight than I saw my entire time in Australia.

The "ute" was invented in Australia
The ute is our version of the hillbilly/trademan work vehicle
Utes are built as a unibody, no frames downunder since about 77.
They are factory built with V8 engines, not to mention the turbo I6 in the Falcon.
The ute became much more popular in the late 70's when the coupe versions of the Falcon and Commodore did not appear any more

I would killl for a 70's series cruiser. Hands down.
There was one on ebay legally in the US for $15k.. The guy got it. A steep price for a 20 year old truck.
