I was on the lookout for a bare tub to build a street car but came across a deal that couldn't pass up.

About an hour ago I picked up a 93 B package for $600. PS, PW, LSD. 180k but started right up and seemed to run well. Needs a front control arm, front fender, front brakes and a top. All of which I already have. Came with an aftermarket muffler and an aftermarket two row steel radiator (and some kind of aftermarket subwoofer, speaker, CD player thing that will get ripped out) . An afternoon of work and a quick buff to get the paint to shine again and done.

I will still do the tub thing but on hold for a few months now.

Where is this club at?

We have the "under $2500" club in the Chicago area.

Under 1000.00 Miata? We call those Unicorns- they exist in rumors only.

There's a local one on CL for $1300 in not terrible shape. That being said, it DOES have a body kit on it. It's not the worst thing i've ever seen though.

Might go look at it this weekend.

Under $1000 Miatas do exist but takes effort and perserverance. My fathing in law found a $600 91 in Iowa about 3 months ago. Mine was on CL but that is rare as they usually go faster than I can respond. In my case it was mis titled and not very well represented in the text. I know someone who found a $200 90 at a bodyshop about 6 months ago and I met a guy who picked up a 94 for $400 from a repair place.

My friend and I just picked up a $500 '91 that had sat for 4 years. Shot top and a dead raccoon in the engine bay (and later found an ant colony in the parcel shelf), but fired right up on a new battery!

mine wasnt quite that cheap, but $1000 for a daily drivable 94 M is fine with me

Ditto for the Boston area. My $1500 FC3S was in better shape than some $2000 Miatas.

Not only was it cheap but it also came with the super rare factory raccoon option. Nice.

I bought mine for $500, plane tickets, gas for the drive home, new fluids, and some fresh sheetmetal welded in and I'm still under a g. The car looks like garbage but has a fresh engine and newer clutch. Unlike my civic it is driveable at the moment!

I just bought a 90 with 94k with a super clean upholstery and one small scratch for 3k at an auction. I thought I did o.k. based on mileage and condition unitl my wife's cousin bought a 92 with 15k for 5k from the owner's widow. Some days, I really hate him. :)

They are out there, you just need to be ready to act on a moment's notice

I bought this 92 Black&Tan package with 162k last summer for $800, it was posted on my local CL (Cape Cod) and I was able to call the guy about 30 minutes after posting and went and bought it.

I didn't have space to keep it as I was moving, so a good cleaning and buffing along with a bit of expanding foam and fiberglass repair to the rockers, a few days on eBay, and it looked like this and sold for $2000.

I am the proud owner of a 90 that sat for 2-3 years, and was purchased, WITH the factory hardtop for $1000. Changed the oil, put in some fuel line antifreeze and injector cleaner, and a free battery from a fellow owner that replaces wet cells with AGM type batteries and she fired nicely. Needs a softtop, but is otherwise in decent shape.

Kara bought her second Miata for $750 with a hardtop. Hence the license plate (on the right:)
